I always thought the UC GPA was calculated by using a-g classes during the 10th and 11th grade and by giving up to eight extra points for eight Honors and AP semesters taken during those years. However, when I was reading the UC catalogue, it said extra points were given for up to eight Honors COURSES, which would mean 16 semesters or 16 extra points. If my GPA is calclated the first way, it's a 3.82, but if it's calculated the second way, it's a 4.09. Will someone please tell me how the UC GPA is calculated and how many extra points it is possible to be given for AP and Honors courses?

I'm also wondering the same thing. On UC San Diego's comprehensive review site, they list the highest GPA they count as a 4.5, but how in the world would it get that high if only 8 semester points are counted out of a total of at least 20 semesters worth of classes over a two year period??

I was also under the impression that you get 8 extra points TOTAL, then divide that by the number of semester units. I've seen some people here post that they have a 4.6 UC GPA and I honestly don't know how that's possible... :? Could someone explain?

Exactly, GLM225. On my transcript, it says i have a 4.67 UC GPA, but when i calculated my UC GPA using 10-11th grade grades and using only 8 total extra points, it's down to a 4.44. So I don't really know what's up with it all.
