Question about UPenn and SAT/ACT tests....

Hi all,

My son has applied EA to Yale, and like many of you, we are impatiently waiting for mid-Dec.

Meanwhile, he is applying RD to several other schools, among them UPenn.

UPenn's website says that it prefers the SAT over the ACT but will take either. Can anyone tell me something about the repercussions of submitting the ACT? My son scored very highly on the ACT. He attends a public school in a small town in the midwest and there was next to no test prep offered. His SAT scores were quite good, but not as outstanding as the ACT score. Is there any more leeway for us in the midwest to submit ACT scores over SAT scores, given that it is a much more common test for college-bound kids to take in this area than it is on the coasts? Thanks for any input you may have! ~berurah

They will just take ACTs . Look at their admissions sight. About 500 applicants last year only sent in ACTS.

Do you know how any of those fared in the admissions process?? Thanks! ~b.

I remember seeing posts last year of students who got in with ACTs only. Their scores were 29-30. Brown will take ACTs alone.

gogirl,

Most of the schools will take the ACT in lieu of the SAT, but Penn is the only site I read that said it "preferred" the SAT. The others claim that they both receive equal consideration. My son's score was a 34 (composite) with a perfect 36 in English and 35 in reading. So, I think he will end up submitting just that. ~b.
