What kind of clothes are going to keep me warm this weekend, while still looking nice for the Harrison Scholars weekend? The attire is casual for a majority of the event, but business casual for the dinner on Sunday night. Consider that I am from Texas and I simply cannot find very many warm clothes (40 degrees is considered cold down here).

You are going to want a WARM winter coat, a scarf, a hat or earmuffs, and gloves. You only need to look nice the first day from what I remember, so just pack something-- anything-- warm for the second day. I've been fine in a sweatshirt, jeans, and a coat, but I'm pretty used to this weather. The wind chill has been in the negatives this week, but it's supposed to be a little warmer this weekend. I would also recommend decent walking shoes because you'll be walking a bit (and lucky me, I get to be one of the accompanying students!) to and from activities, and some of the sidewalks have black ice.

Thanks aussiek. I tried to buy some warm attire tonight...there wasn't much here. Luckily, I have a wool coat from previous trips up north, so that should come in handy.

aussiek - were you one of the students who escorted us to Kofenya? It only dawned on me later that that could have been you.

Yes!!! I was the girl in the red sweatshirt and glasses who was EVERYWHERE on Saturday. I did registration (parents table), took a group to a seminar, picked you guys up from dinner, went to Kofenya, and then hung out in Tappan basement until 1 AM, LOL. Who were you? I only got to talk to about half of the group; I think you must have been sitting farthest from the door because I couldn't squeeze back there. How did you like Miami?

I absolutely loved Miami! The campus was beautiful and the people could not have been friendlier!

I was the person in the sweater with a polo shirt underneath and a wool coat (and I probably still looked very cold!). In Kofenya I sat toward the back where the three couches are situated around a coffee table (if you are standing at the bar looking toward where the band was playing, it would be directly to the right). I was all over in Tappan basement...I played ping pong, watched some pool, and just talked to people...I was wearing a white T-shirt that said "CHALLENGE!" on the back.
