Question on Greek Life!

Hi!
For people with experience at UR, what are your impressions of Greek Life? I have heard COMPLETELY mixed reviews. The last thing I want is for college to be cliquey like High School, and I have heard that is a symptom of sororities. However, I have gone to summer camp all my life and I love the idea of having a tight group of friends to spend my time with.
I am also a bit rattled by the fact that Greek Life is said to be seen as a place for only the preppy, shallow people at UR, but it is such a rich, intelligent campus with brilliant kids, how can that be true?
Is there hazing for girls? Truly I am getting very worked up about this aspect of UR!
Please help! Thanks!

Pledged and was initiated into a fraternity. God’s honest truth, no holds barred. KKG and Theta are the best 2, Tri-delt is alright, rest don’t bother.

Preppy, shallow, obnoxious, you bet. The real issue is fraternity hazing. Insane, depraved things occur. After you accept the bid the “non-hazing policy” turns into a demand for silence, blindfolding, false imprisonment, and physical and mental abuse, except for SPE but they’re soft. As insane as it sounds there are people who would judge you less favorably as a potential mate (especially for freshmen) for not being in a frat. Admins who I could name look the other way.

Sorority stuff is mainly bs from some girls I dated. You will be forced to cook meals (then screamed at for “disappointing,” do an excessive amount of shots with your “big,” and experience some amateur brainwashing.

Remember the non-hazing policy while you’re in that basement though. Makes for a nice laugh. If you go focus on your grades and not the nonsense. Nothing good happens on the row.
