We should start by making clear that this invitation is a "time-sensitive" offer. You have received a general invitation to join the College Park Scholars (Scholars) community, but because Scholars is a collection of twelve living-learning programs, you still have to be admitted to a specific Scholars program. In order to do this, you need to let us know that you are interested in the program by March 15, 2007.

I assume this just means we have to say we're interested but not committed? I hope they're not implying we have to commit to the program if we haven't even gotten back other decision letters from other colleges. I won't know if I want to go to Maryland until Mid April.

nope it doesn't at least i dont think i know for gemstone its until may 1 and honors you just have to confirm your going to the school and your in

Nevermind, I think you are selected for a program even if you're not sure if Maryland is the school you're attending. It also says there are waitlists for specific scholars programs that go into May, so those are used once people turned down UMD acceptances, and spots in those programs open up, I assume.

They want to place you into a program for scholars. Some are easier to get into than others. After you are placed into a program you decidd if you want to go to the university. The specific scholars program can make a big difference for some people. I mean, once I found out I was going to be in the business scholars program, I knew I was going to UMD.

Does completing the College Park Scholars Interest Inventory commit me to enroll at the University of Maryland?

It does not. The Interest Inventory only reserves a place for you in College Park Scholars should you decide to attend Maryland. In order to confirm your intention to enroll at the University of Maryland, you must return the Enrollment Confirmation portion of your Maryland Planner by May 1, 2007, to the University's Office of Undergraduate Admissions in accordance with their policies.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to another university. Why should I still send in the Interest Inventory?

Some students think they won't be attending Maryland, but change their minds in April, especially after Maryland extends financial aid offers in late March. If you wait until April to return your Interest Inventory, you may be too late to be a part of Scholars (see the next question). Remember, submitting the Interest Inventory only reserves a place in Scholars; it does not commit you to enroll at Maryland. Keep your options open.
