Question on Unit (UCSD > UCB HAAS)

Hi, I am going to be freshman in UCSD coming fall.
I am planning to apply to Haas school of business for the class of 2012(2010~).

On the Berkeley website, I realized that I need to have 60~80 semester units in order to transfer for junior class. I currently have 32 quarter units in UCSD from AP tests in high school. However, I realized that UCB DOES NOT give any credit to my AP tests.

Few questsion here…

With my AP credits , I am exempted from many courses in UCSD. Therefor, if I retake these classes , I will end up not getting unit credits in these classes. Will UCB recalculate my GPA and give units for these classes since I am NOT exempted from these classes in UCB?

Some people said that UC schools share the GPA thingy… so my units and GPA from UCSD will be what the UCB admission officer would be looking at… (which means if I take these exempted courses in UCSD, I will end up not getting any unit and grades from both UCSD and UCB)

Can sombody clarify this for me?? I am EXTREMELY CONFUSED. I am signing up for classes coming wednesday…

I will be retaking the exempted classes (for easy A) if I can get the units and lettered grade for GPA at Haas since GPA is important in admission to Haas.
However, if I dont get units or grades for these classes, I will probably sign up for few (probably 3) upper classes and concentrate on them since I cannot go over 80 units to transfer. Probably I confused you by now, but hopefully somebody has answer to this question :(

Thanks in advance.

You're entire post doesn't seem to allow for the possibility that you don't get into Haas as a transfer. Even if they would accept courses that you took for no credit at UCSD, would you want to risk wasting your time if you don't get in? As I'm sure you've heard, it's not easy transferring between UC's (and especially not up the ladder) because CC students get preferential treatment. If your goal was Haas all along you would have been better served going to CC yourself.

Hmm.. thanks for the advice.
However, I was planning to go to Med School. Therefore, I decided to go straight to Med if I dont make it to Haas or, if I get into Haas, I could possibly change my career since I am kind of stuck between two.

Also, I need to take general bio and general chem ANYWAYS although they are exempted for me in UCSD because I have to use them for the Med.
But the question is,, I have option of taking it freshman year or taking it jr/senior year at the end (quiet many people do it this way) just to fulfil the Med Requirement.

And this is why I am wondering if I should take these exemptd classes now (for easy A to get into Haas if they accept these classes) or take higher classes for Haas now if Haas doesn't give credit to re-taken courses. And this is ONLY because I can come back to general bio and chem for Med after getting rejection letter from Haas.
With these info, can anybody answer my question on units...? ^^;

btw.. the only reason that I don't just take general bio n chem now is that.. what if I get into haas but haas doesn't give me any unit for these?
its waste of money and time..

I would recommend taking the general bio and chem now, because you are incorrect about a lot of people taking them during 3rd and 4th year. I don't even think it's possible to test out of every pre-req so you might as well get what you have left out of the way. Not to be pessimistic (anything is possible and I'm sure that you're exceptionally bright) but you should probably plan on staying at UCSD. Haas is far from a sure thing and if you decide that you want to go into business you still can, just without a degree in it...and then you can get your MBA at Haas if you so please. Either way, I wish you luck!

Thanks CWalker.
It was one motivating comment. :)
I am still open to other suggestions though.

Somebody help me~~ :(
i am still wondering..
im worried that if Berk gives units for my ap credits.. I will go over 80 units and will not be able to apply :(

huh?

minimum is 60 semester / 90 quarter units....

theres not only minimum, but maximum..
its 60~80 units(semester)

^
thanks mini-mod

I assumed he was talking quarter units since he attends UCSD , my bad

so.. anybody?

i thought u meant UCSD was better than haas i was so ready to flame this thread lol >_>
