Ok so technically I’m a sophomore based on credits, but I’m an true incoming freshman. On most job applications they want to know what year I am. So my question is do I say I am a sophomore or do I answer with I am a freshman. An example would be https://osu.az1.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/SE/?SID=SV_a3hTOyELfw5HPq5 Thank you.
freshman fam, you’re only rank 2 for football tix and scheduling priority.
There is a distinction between “academic rank” and “year”. Academically, you are a Rank 2 Sophomore. You are also a first year student. I try to avoid using the terms freshman, sophomore, etc. because of these differences. I try to describe myself based on year or rank.
Job applications are a gray area because it’s not always clear what they are looking for. You can simply write “Rank 2/1st Year”.
OSU defines a first year as anyone within one year of high school gradation OR anyone with less than 30 hours.
Since the job applications are a gray area, I always look at how many years I have until I graduate. No one cares that you have 120 hours if you are still 4 years from graduation. In fact, many jobs prefer younger people because they can use them for longer before they leave.
It is probably more accurate to put freshman on your job application - although if you want to make a case for it, you could make an argument for putting something else. It depends what type of job you are applying for and why you would want to argue the other. The purpose of the application is to get the interview - so think about what you want to say during the interview to support the answer you give - and how you want to appear should you get the chance to talk to the potential employer. That should guide you in what answer to put down. - note, if you are applying for internships that are only available to sophomores or higher, the class rank is most likely not going to help you qualify
