Question to those that have taken both the ACT and SAT

Are any of you taking the ACT because you felt that your SAT score was much weaker than your real potential?

Possibly. I took the SAT once and I took the PSATs a second time. While both of my scores were good, there was no real improvement, and I wanted to try something different.

I scored a weak 161 PSAT, and I feel like it’s not up to my real potential. I still haven’t taken a full ACT practice test yet, but I got a science score of 32 on my first try (I’ll have to take more to verify this). CR was my worst on the SAT, and I heard that the ACT reading is cake compared to it.

Here’s a comparison, if it helps:

SAT: 2150 Total
Math: 730
Reading: 690
Writing: 730, Essay - 10

ACT: 35 Composite
Math: 36
Reading: 36
Writing: 35
Science: 33
Essay - 10

Some people just do better on one test than the other. My brain just didn’t work on the SAT’s wavelength, and I feel like I was much more suited to the ACT.

SAT: 2100 Total
Math: 800
Reading: 630
Writing: 670, Essay - 9

ACT: 35 Composite
Math: 36
Science: 36
Reading: 34
English: 33
Writing: NA

ACT much greater than SAT (By 250 SAT points)

Wow thanks for the responses!

I just want the ACT to couple my SAT

By the time I apply I will have a 2300+ superscore SAT and at least the 34.25 ACT I have now. I am retaking the ACT through my state so that may go up as well. Colleges like it if you can show proficiency throughout ALL tests they look at.

Yeah, I think the agreement is that one works better for some, while the other works better for others.

My breakdown for both is relatively similar to everyone else’s:

SAT: 2200
Reading: 700
Math: 730
Writing: 770

ACT: 34.25
English: 36
Math: 36
Science: 34
Reading: 31 (32 on another ACT date)

The first time I took the SAT, I got around 2200. I knew I could do better, and I also had heard from many of my friends that the ACT was apparently easier than the SAT. So I signed up for the ACT and, much to my surprise (and happiness, of course), I ended up with a 35. Still feeling like my SAT score could improve, I took it yet again and got a 2360.

So I guess in my case… the scores are basically the same.

SAT
2070 Total
720 Reading
660 Math
690 Writing (10 essay)

ACT
35 Composite
35 English (33 combined writing/english 10 essay)
34 Math
36 Reading
36 Science

my ACT scores were wayyyyyyy higher than my SAT scores so really its just a matter of which test best suits you
