Ok, is it possible to get into Exeter, PA, or Deerfield, if you got some B's sixth grade year? After that I got straight A's in advanced classes...please help! I would appreciate people speaking from personal experience!

I don’t see why not. I don’t go to any of those schools, but if you volunteered, had extracurriculars, etc. it looks like your chances are good.

I’m sure tons of people had lows SSATS, somewhat bad grades earlier years, and still got in.

As long as you improved, I don’t think it’ll significantly lessen your chances. Also, if you go to a more academically rigorous middle school, they might cut you some slack.

I got into andover with bs in both 6th and 7th grade, but I also went to an IB school so we had a bit of a different system. Just do well on your SSAT and you’ll be fine

Ok thanks! Next year I’m going to a Catholic junior academy. Also, if you’re trilingual, where do you say that on the application?

There is special room to mention it, or in your interview you can talk about it. Out of curiosity what languages are they?

I got accepted to Deerfield and I had C’s and D’s in the sixth grade. Mostly B’s and some A’s in 7th. All A’s in 8th. Also I got a very low math score on SSATs.

Basically, to go to prep school, you have to fall into one or more of these five categories, in descending order of importance:
1.) Legacy
2.) Very Rich
3.) Athlete
4.) Smart
5.) Minority

So, if you feel are lacking in the grade department, maybe you make up for it in 1-3, 5.

What? I am smart! Im in Mensa! My IQ’s higher than Einstein!!! ARGH HOW DARE YOU SAY I’M NOT SMART? Jk I’m not that mad, you don’t know me.

Whoa HarvardRox…I think you’ll get!

bksvet310, how did you get in? And I mean that seriously, not in a mean way. What’d you do that made up for your grades and SSAT score?

I meant Whoa HarvardRox… I think you’ll get in!

Sparklefun, they’re German, French, and Creole. Creole is the language of Haiti.

Hey, if you’re female, you’re automatically a minority, aren’t you? It’s sexist, but if it’ll help me get in… I’m ok with it!

No, gender won’t help noticeably, but if anything male is better (most colleges seek the 50/50 gender distribution but have a female slant, and thus would favor an equally qualified man over woman).

More girls are applying to BS than boys. It’s not an advantage. :-(

Dang it…

What’s the teacher to student ratio there?
