Questions about FBLA

Hello. Next year, I will be an incoming member of my school’s FBLA chapter and I was wondering if any seasoned FBLAers could help me out. Any help at all is much appreciated.

  1. What is the general consensus as to which events are the easiest? Hardest?
  2. For more of the obscure topics that some of the events test knowledge of, e.g. Business Law, which is not typically taught in high school environments, are competitors more or less expected to self-study?
  3. How difficult, i.e. how much skill is actually required to qualify/place at the national conference?
  4. What are the overall impact of FBLA awards on college applications? Just wondering for future's sake. (I don't need the whole "Do what you love" talk. I love business, and I wouldn't be doing FBLA if I didn't.)
  5. Any opinions, comments, concerns, esp. related to the events: Economics, Business Law, Impromptu Speaking, and Public Speaking?

Thanks in advance.

Competitiveness depends on your region but in general, it’s fairly easy to place if you spend some time studying for the exam based ones- and yes, you may have to self-study for them. I would say the awards don’t carry too much weight since it doesn’t require too much talent but it’s a really fun experience.
