Questions about Freshman Seminars

Can we take more than one FRS?

Do most people get their first choice?

The FRSs count as regular courses, so would it be hard to take one along with four normal courses?

Thanks!

only one per semester of your freshman year.

most people do get their first choice.

no, wouldn't be too hard to take along four normal....

also, you have to write a brief essay explaining why you ranked (they let you rank 3) the FRS's the way you did.

but that's all a lot later.
in another two months or so.

and DON'T, i repeat DON'T stress about the essay now.
it's not a big deal.

early decision kids got a copy of last year's FRS handbook so prob. know what i'm talking about...

wait, is FRS different from writing seminars?

Yea...writing seminars are required for everyone, and FRS are intended to be an interesting way to explore a topic, or at least satisfy a distribution requirement.

The essay actually has zero bearing on whether you get the seminar or not, it's completely random. Though if you want to make a good first impression, your professor is given them after you're put in the class and might read them.

Wow, how did you find that out? It doesn't sound like the type of information "they" would want to get out.

They tell you. No need to stress about the essay.

I've known people to take more than one FRS a semester, but most people don't have that much free space in their schedule. Many engineers will take it with four other classes (since engineers usually take at least one semester/year with five classes) but most AB students stick with four, or else take five while P/D/F-ing one.

It depends on chance if you get your first choice. Some are more competitive than others; they try to maximize it so that as many people can get at least one on their list as possible.
