I know New South (aka "dirty south") has a reputation for being a dorm with a lot of wild partying and stuff. do the other freshman residence halls have stereotypes associated with them, too?

also, I really want a dorm in Village C--how is housing at gtown assigned? is it random, or can i request a specific residence? if it's by request, do certain halls have more demand than others, making it hard for people to get what they want?

Housing at Georgetown is random, unless you choose special-living community, Living Well (SUbstance-Free), Culture and Performance, and Social Justice. The you get HArbin for LW, and SWQ for the other two. VC is getting remodeled this summer, and the rooms are fairly smaller than HArbin because they have a bathroom, remember you have to clean your own bathroom!!!!!!! Harbin (where I live) is by far the best, lol, the rooms are very spacious, big desks, yes there is a community bathroom but it's not a problem, and I think it forces a community, since we have to leave our romm sometime. New South is pakling new, and although it is quite wild, it's no longer dirty, that nickname has become quite outdated. Darnall is by far the typical college dorm, the rooms are small but not compact, and it does have a communal bathroom. Darnall is also quite separated from the rest of the freshman dorms, but has it's own caf. The SWQ, which you will only get unless you chose special interest floors is brand new and very nice, bugger rooms, and communal bathrooms. You'll get to see them at the Open Houses.

http://housing.georgetown.edu says that the SWQ residences are for upperclassmen. can freshmen choose to be in special-living communities? because that's something i'd definitely be interested in.

Yes they can! You will get all that in a big package that will come in MAy or JUne, don't worry about it yet, it'll be very clear. The only problem with these special interest floors os that you will not be able to chose your roomate like everybody else would, but it tends to work out! :)

So I won't get to request Harbin? I'll just have to hope for the best?

yeah. You cannot choose which dorm you want.

like hoyadan said, you can always choose to be in a special housing community. So, you could end up living in the Southwest Quad, or Harbin, if you sign up for one of these. Of course, you can't use CHARMS(this new housing online program where you can basically find ppl with similar interests, chat, etc., and then request each other to be roommates).

I heard that it's better for freshmen to not live in special interest because they tend to socialize with only their floor and are isolated from the rest of the student body. Is this true? Because some of the special interest stuff seemed interesting.

hardly. Sure, there are special events that are planned for the special interest floors, but I don't think it's any different than any other floor. Just join clubs, go out, get a job, etc., and you'll meet a lot of people.

Couldn't have said it any better!!!!!! It's your choicec how isolated you are. You can live on any other floor and only ahve friends on that flor or not have any friends on your floor.
