I'm a freshman here, a direct admit so of course a business major (undecided concentration). I am from Illinois. If you have any questions about anything here at IU I am willing to try to help you out. Just post a reply or if you want it to be more private you can send me a private message.

If you are not a direct admit and want to major in business, are you scre***?

How do you like the campus and the town?

No you're not screwed. Here's the differences.

In January and February, you will be applying to the B-School while DAs will already be admitted. But basically if you keep a 3.5 GPA and get involved in a couple things you should be fine.

Also, DAs have separate advisors only for DAs. Trust me, this one is not a big deal.

There are some other programs they do where they only invite DAs to. For example, they will have CEOs from corporations come in and speak at a luncheon.

You get a free t-shirt and flash drive if you are a DA.

The campus is very nice, very clean, and well maintained. The town is very safe and you can get every kind of ethnic food you want.

Where are you from? Have you been admitted for next year already?

My son is from California and he has been admitted. He is in the business schools at Ohio State and Pittsburgh. He is not in the business school at Indiana.

decisions...decisions.....what is he leaning towards?

No clue yet.

What's the sales pitch for Indiana?

haha....Kelley, Kelley, and Kelley....have you been to campus yet?

No. Just seen it on video. It was a filmed college tour. The campus has to be one of the most beautiful I have seen. I have seen over 30 videos of schools and the only one that compares is UCSC, but UCSC doesn't have beautiful buildings.

Ya honestly it is really nice and they keep it very clean.....are you planning on a visit?

I will not go until after he has made a choice. I don't want to influence his decision. :)

I'm leaving the going or not going to him.

Are you visiting any of the schools he is looking in to?

No. I'm not. And he wouldn't want me to visit before he made up his mind. He wants to choose. He wants to make the decision.

Oh I see.....he is visiting the schools but not you..yet

I wouldn't say you need a 3.5. I'm hearing all you need is a 3.0 to get into Kelley.

Well it says 3.0 is the bare minimum.....you know you're safe with 3.5

During our visit we heard that the second year admission into Kelley is quite competitive. Obviously there is a certain number that they will accept, so you could have a 3.4, but they could fill all spots with applicants higher up than you.

chocoholic, thanks for the info.

I am accepted into the Hutton Honors College for next year - I am trying to figure out the housing. Any thoughts on Honors housing and/or this F.I.G. dorm thing? I don't want to be in a dorm that's all study, study, study. Also, what's the better place to live? Central, up by McNutt, or over by Read? What's Forest like? Someone said it's all girls. I want coed.

I live in honors housing. It's not study, study, study. Here's the thing on housing. Roommates are assigned at complete random, so if you live in the honors housing, your chances of getting a "more decent" roommate improve. If you already know who you will be rooming with (somewhere from HS or whatever), then you obviously don't have to worry about this.

I tried to get into the sports FIG, which would have been great. If you can get into a FIG, I would do it. However, they fill up very fast.

Now about the dorms. Whoever told you Forrest is all female was incorrect. The central dorms are the best location on campus, obviously because they are central. McNutt is the party dorm and is about a 5 minute walk from the B-school. Read has a lot of music students in it since it is next to the music school. Read is not air conditioned, and I'm not sure about Forrest. Read and Forrest are much farther walks to the Business school.

In the central, Wright is the best location, but it does not have air conditioning. Teter is right next to Wright and it is air conditioned.

dstark
we visited IUB in October, and DS and I really really liked it. Very helpful folk, gorgeous campus, and the UNION student center is something else.

We attended a presentation at Kelley, and I am always a little sceptical =(
The rah-rah just doesn't get me. I'm more of "show me the money". If my S went to IUB and did not make it into Kelley next year that would not be good. Also, what if one got into Kelley, but they offered you the least popular major. Or one that was low on your list. I just worry about these things.
