One more question, if I may. I was wondering about the following programs: James Madison and Kent State (maybe also Arizona State.) Are all of these reputable programs? Just wondering in case I have to choose less competitive ones (which I think I will just because I want to have better chances of getting in :D)

Ha, I have actually been looking into both of those schools.

Kent State seems like it has a nice program, but I don't know first-hand. I always find Youtube a great thing when looking into the programs.

As for JMU, I live in Williamsburg, VA which is about 2-3 hours away so I know a lot of people that want to or do go there, but none of them for theater. I have never really even heard of their theater program. The only ones in Virginia that I heard are reputable are VCU (no MT program) and Shenendoah Conservatory. CNU is getting a better theater department though (Acting major, MT concentration).

The voice dept at the School of Music at ASU is competitive (and for certain teachers HIGHLY competitive) Im just assuming you are looking into the School of Music (MT vocal performance)----or are you looking into the theatre dept?(not in the School of Music)

Hey musicamusica (p.s. i love your username! hablas espanol?)

... haha ... I am actually looking into Musical theater this time around, and not voice department (last auditions i was opera...but i've had a HUGE change of heart.)

In looking at the curriculum for ASU, it does not seem to offer as many years of dance as some programs. It seems a very musically oriented program given that is is through the school of music.
That is not necessarily a bad thing, it is just one more piece of the puzzle.

Kent State is my backup school for MT. It's a decent program...but for me it's not up to par. My one friend auditioned for Point Park, CCM, Otterbein, BW and was rejected from all of those. He was waitlisted for Wright State, and got accepted to Shenadoah and Kent. He's going to Kent next year...BUT he never auditioned. He became friends with someone within the school and they got him into the program without him even auditioning. He has all his classes lined up for this fall. So i'd say Kent is a better back up school!

thank you all for los responses!! I'm just trying to see if there are programs out there that are at least better than a non audition program but not as competitive as say BoCo. You know what I mean? I want more than a .5% chance of getting in haha.

Yes -- VCU is Virginia Commonwealth University. They offer BFA and MFA degrees. They do musicals occasionally, but do not offer a specific Musicical Theatre degree.

Hi Jeremy.
I don't know if this has any relevance to 2007, but way back in 1981 when I attended JMU, one of my dormmates performed in many shows and they were wonderful. They actually had a dinner theater that students could attend on the meal plan and I went a few times. I believe that particular girl did end up in Hollywood with some success.

I believe JMU has a very good program. I know of someone very talented in the MT program. But Jeremy where are you going to college, I thought you were accepted to JMU?
