Hi I was looking at the dorms and had some questions about Markley.
How are the rooms and how are the bathrooms (are they clean, spacious, what is the shower situation like)
Thanks

It’s not the nicest dorm aesthetically. Rooms are tiny. The building is dated. But most freshmen wouldn’t trade their experience there for a “nicer” dorm.
Markley is kind of disgusting, very loud on weekends. But no worries. If you get it, you can trade with the hordes who will be clamoring for its social cache.
Are the bathrooms hall baths or shared between 2 rooms?
Hall baths. It’s a typical 1970s dorm. Cinder blocks and all.
@maya54 I was trying to be delicate
Ok. My kid is there. So at least someone else cleans the baths!!
My kid was there a couple of years ago. The rooms are very small (11 x 12) Hall baths, no air, generally a disgusting vibe about the place. Very loud and obnoxious on the weekends. With that being said, she had the best eight months of her life, made great friends and wouldn’t change a thing :))
My son is also at Markley!! I was disappointed as there is no A/C, community bathrooms and the rooms are small and old. My daughter went to U of M and stayed at Baits and she is THRILLED for my son…telling him he got a great dorm and he will love it. I’ve heard it’s a very fun and social place, which is just what my somewhat introverted son needs. I’m confident it will all work out. HRSMom, we should chat.
It’s amenities are somewhat lacking (small rooms, no AC), but there is a dining hall that is decent (it has a make-your-own pizza station!) and residents are also a short walk away from MoJo dining (one of the best dining halls). It is also probably the most social residence hall.
