Questions about Mount Holyoke?

Hello. I have a question: according to the admittance letter, I am awarded about 22,000. However, I am a bit confused whether this is per term or per year.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Does your award letter have columns titled SPRING- FALL- TOTAL? If not, you may want to call the FA office and ask for clarification. They are very helpful! https://www.mtholyoke.edu/sfs/contacts

@staceyneil , it only says SPRING and TOTAL. Does that mean they are only financing me for one term? :/

@Ninny27‌ Are you by any chance a spring admit? Because, yes, it does appear they’re only financing the one term. If you’re a fall admit maybe you should call them and make sure there has not been some mistake. Good luck!

@Ninny27 I saw on your other thread that you’re a spring admit. I would be willing to bet that next year (assuming your financial situation stays the same) you would be awarded the $22k for both fall and spring semesters. But if I were you, just to put your mind at ease, I would still call the FA office to confirm.

By the way, I saw you asked about spring admit on your other thread. I was a spring admit when I started college years ago (Colgate University). It was not a big deal. There were many other spring admits so we bonded. You do miss out a little bit on the larger orientation activities, but I certainly don’t think it’s a reason to pass up the opportunity to study at an excellent school like MHC. You can use your fall semester to work to earn money, and/or to take classes and transfer credits. Here in the US, students usually take classes at a local Community College. I’m not sure if you have that option in your home country. Certainly check with MHC before enrolling in classes to make sure the credit will transfer! I also think that your MHC advisors can probably help you figure out how to structure your course load in order to graduate with the rest of the 2018 class, if that is important to you.

@staceyneil , thank you very much for your advice. It was really helpful. :)

D had a few friends at MHC who were spring admits–was sad when they didn’t graduate with her, but neat that they were still on campus for her to visit the following fall!!

@MHC2015: Hii…I am an international student and I got accepted to MHC as a transfer but I didn’t get suffcient aid…I have to pay around 15k annually but my parents can only afford 9k maximum…I also applied for request for reconsideration since my brother has to go through a surgery and cited medical expenses but my request was denied. Anyway I can convince them to revise my aid again?

@niabelle I doubt it. We are domestic and in almost the exact same situation (Can’t afford our EFC and have a major surgery with huge medical expenses next week) and they are unable to adjust our financial aid package. It has caused a lot of tears and a huge amount of stress. In fact I was just going through the numbers with my mom trying to figure out some way to make it happen. The only way is for us to go more into debt.

Hi. I also want to ask about spring admit. I graduated from my high school last year thus I do not want to wait for four more months. I am thinking about moving to the fall admit but I am not sure about the chance for me to do that. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hello! I don’t know if you are still posting MHC information on CC, but I(along with many I imagine) am wondering if you have any idea when the ED announcements for the class of 2019 will be coming out? I know they have posted 1/1, but when we have visited the school(multiple times in the last year) they indicated mid-to-late December. My daughter is losing sleep - and her mind. She is utterly in love with MHC, for very good reasons :-)

Hi @twingirlsmom,
Last year the ED decisions came out on the 18th, which was a Friday, so I think it’s reasonable to assume that this Friday will be the day. I can attest that the RD decisions did come out on a Friday, many days before the published decision date.
Good luck to your daughter! Mine absolutely LOVES it there :)
