questions about the 4500 character limit for online app

Hmm, I recently asked how long the essay should be and was replied that it should be 500 to 1000 words. I went and wrote my essay and it turned out to be 1000 words after I trimmed it down a bit. So I figured it should work. I went and tried to submit it to the online app and it said only 4500 characters could be submitted. I used fairly short words and I still had 5800 characters.

The 4500 character limit is very troubling because it counts the spaces also. I could only fit 770 words because of this limit. Is there a way around this problem?

The only other way I could think of is by using the paper app, but I really like how my online app is looking and would really like to continue the online app.

I am unsure about how our (or the Common App.) online applications work as it relates to character limits. If you are experiencing difficulties, then just mark in the essays section of your online application that you will be submitting your essays through the mail and then just send them in.

There is no need to stop applying with the online application if you choose to submit your essays through the mail.

k sounds good. although I wish they could extend the character limit to 6000 characters.

hmm when i send in my essay, should I make a note somewhere on the envelop that an essay is enclosed?

No need to note on the envelope that your essay is enclosed -- just make sure your full name, birth date, and high school are included so it can be matched with the rest of your application.

k so i assume that I enclose my essay and put a note on it with my personal info.
