Hi everyone so I will be attending GW in the fall of 2016. I know the Elliot school is quite big there and many popular majors reside there and I’ve heard/read there isn’t much emphasis on the sciences/pre med and professors aren’t very passionate about the material and I was just wondering if current students could give me more insight into this or if this is just all a rumor.
Also, does anyone know anything about the SIM (specialized interdisciplinary major) at GW? Because I’m interested in neuroscience but currently there isn’t a major for it however online it says that you can create a SIM for it and I’m just not exactly sure what that means.
Thank You!
if by “many majors,” you mean like 4, then ya. elliott only has IR and a few regional concentrations. i don’t know who told you that the science professors aren’t passionate. anyone who dedicates their entire life to just scientific research and teaching either has to be pretty passionate or have very poor decision-making skills. you science kids got the cool new science building and plenty of good professors. relax and enjoy your second senior semester, no need to stress about this stuff
Those were definitely some rumors you heard, as I saw nothing like that in Columbian College (I majored in physics). And there is definitely a strong premed program at GW. It seems like 1 out of 10 new students I met freshman year were premed. Also, having a medical school brings in lots of premed students.
@NHuffer
My DS was admitted to the Elliot School and is thrilled with the acceptance. He really wants to double major in IR and Physics. Are you aware of any reason he could not double major in these two subjects at GW?
elliott students are permitted to double major at the college of arts and sciences, so a physics major should be no issue
