Questions for Drama Students

I'm seventeen and a senior in high school. I got a 2120 on my SAT and a 730 and 740 on my subject tests. I get straight A's and have plenty of extracurricular activities. My ultimate dream is to be an actress. The only problem is that I want to go into musical theatre. I know that Vassar does not have a musical theatre major, just straight theatre. However, my father is a professor there and I would be able to go for free. My question is: is it worth it to go to a very good school with an excellent program for free, even if it isn't exactly what I want? Keep in mind that I would be taking voice lessons and dance on the side.

I know this is really more of an opinion question, but I sort of need an opinion from someone outside of my family.

I’d definitely do it, it’s in the top 5 for drama in the United States and the performing arts scene is HUGE. You’re not going to be alone in liking musical theatre; there’s a vocal performance major (or was, until last year, although the courses still remain and have been absorbed into a more general music major). Vassar’s great for getting free lessons in voice, dance, or basically any non-obscure instrument.
