Questions with SAT Preparation and Essay?

Hey all,
I'm a freshman going to sophomore in high school right now, and I took an SAT Practice test on Collegeboard (the free one they offer). I hadn't practiced and I wanted to get an idea of where I stood. I got a 2140, however, my essay was too long for the software to grade (I didn't know there was a word limit). Individual breakdown being:

Math: 800 (1 wrong)
Writing: 620 (Essay not factored in) (2 wrong)
Reading: 720 (6 wrong)

So a bunch of questions. First of all, how accurate is the collegeboard scores?
Secondly, is this a good score? This was my first test, and I have no idea what the average is or what's good and what's bad...
Also, is there a way for me to get my essay scored?
Finally, how can I best improve my reading score? That's a major area where I have to improve, evidently. I'm probably going to take a prep class next year, but until then....
Thanks for any help! I'm pretty new to this whole thing, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Well, I don’t think you can get more accurate than the rubric made by the institution itself, so…

Anyway, definitely, a 2140 is a solid score, especially for your first time. Depending on your college goals, etc., you may or may not want to prepare and take it again.

Your reading score isn’t that bad either. At where you stand, it’s just more practice. Make sure you know all the vocab thrown at you when you take a practice test. If you don’t, learn them. In regards to the reading passages, it’s just more and more practice. Make sure you understand why you got something wrong and why the right answer is the right answer.

Best of luck!

Oh, and for the essays, perhaps you may want to post it on this website, and see if someone comes along and grades it for you. Essays are hard to get graded accurately :P
