I’m not sure if you’ve decided you love Brown and can’t see yourself anywhere else or not, but…if you’re unsure or might have a change of heart, you shouldn’t be applying early.

I’m not sure how many courses you take each term/year, so the number of As means little to me, and GPA doesn’t really mean much without more information. I assume it’s unweighted, but what does it mean? Do you go to a school where several people will get 4.0s or close? Are the 10% ahead of you close or far ahead? It’s not so much that you’re competing with these people as much as the colleges will have a school profile which should give them a lot more information than this so they can see how you compare, both to your school and to others. If people are getting better grades, even ignoring freshman year, while keeping a schedule comparable to yours, that’s probably not a good sign.

In the end, it’s hard to say. Is 3.75 a high GPA? At some schools, yes, at others, no. recommend you think hard about applying early somewhere when you’ve so recently changed your mind and wish you luck in the admissions process; I’m sorry I couldn’t help more, but the admissions process is really mysterious. So much depends on the other candidates in a year, and less on your numbers than what they mean.

If you are sure Brown is your first choice and, that’s a pretty fixed decision that’s the only time anyone should make an ED app

I give you props for being on the Scholastic Bowl. I’ve been to a couple of competitions in my life. It’s a lot more fun than people think. Haha. Plus, when there’s someone in the room who knows Karate. Man, that sounds like a party.

Good luck with your APP. But I would use a different word for your Spanish II experience. Serious red flag, no? x)

About “bothering” for ED:
your best shot is ED. If there’s another school you’d like to go to more, apply there early. If not, your chances of admission are much higher ED. You are a strong candidate like everyone else. ED shows your commitment to the school and your confidence that Brown is a good match for you.

If Brown decides ED, would that make it harder at other Ivies?

I mean “denies”, not “decides”…

The other schools won’t know about your denial.

On the other side, applying early (rather than waiting for regular) to any school ups your chances. So if you want Yale or Brown, you’d want to apply early to one of them. If you apply early to Yale, you miss out on better chances at Brown. If you apply early to Brown, you miss out on better chances at Yale. This was my personal conundrum. I went ED to Brown in the end, forsaking my Yale options.

Similarly, you have to take a risk. Go for the school you love most. If you don’t love Brown most, but your favorite school doesn’t offer early admissions, wait for that school, or apply somewhere EA.
