Hi! I am here to ask anyone who has done well on their SAT essays to rate my essay much like that of an SAT grader. Thank you.
Prompt: Do we need other people in order to understand ourselves?
Humans as an individual species requires the cooperation and understanding of those around them to prosper and develop both for themselves and the community Throughout history, literature attached with experiences, and modern times there have been a myriad of examples that prove we need other people in order to discover and understand ourselves.
During 600 B.C. in the time of the Tang Dynasty, Wang Zhi Xao was the current emperor who had an oppressive rule. He was depressed and often did not understand why he was placed into ruling position. It was only when he recieved gifts and thoughtful comments from the common people did he change. he realized that the reason he was chosen to be emperor was not because he had royal blood but because he was seen as a strong leader to lead China into great power and prosperity. From then on, he understood who he was to himself and the people of the China, a leader of hope.
During the Civil War, Frederick Douglass and Harriet Beecher Stowe appealed to the Northern Union peoples to connect and bond against the oppression of slavery. George Thatcher, a religious mid-class farmer did not understand the purpose of abolishing slavery altogether as it was profitable at that time. It was not until he read these works and faced the oppression in person did he understand the true terror. He spoke to various slaves about their lives and how they came up and fought against their enslavers, a nostalgic feeling that the Thatcher family experienced from the British rule that they escaped by coming to America. It was then and there that he realized slaves and whites are one in the same no matter their color or status and understood that he was only an advocator of the cruelty.
In a more modern day example, Donald Trump realized that he had the power and connections to take down the unjust political figures who were controlled by money. Trump had once been a lucrative businessman who exploited poltics with grants and super pacs but then did he understand the crucial problems of the poltical systems. He understood how corrupt he had been and then went on to run his presidential campaign around the idea of completely destroying super pacs and blantant public lies to speak the truth of the people.
Indeed, past history, literature and close experiences, as well as modern events explain that we need others to understand ourselves.
I realized that I did not connect it back to the topic as well as I could but are there any other critiques?
