I guess it is that season of the “changing of the guard” of all the new graduates starting school at OCU and the ones getting ready to audition for the class of '13.

My DS has his audition schedualed for Nov. 15th and is really looking forward to it. we visited a few weeks ago and althouh it was a quiet time there, it was a wonderful visit.

I think that he has changed his first choice from NYU to OCU

I've been waiting for the parents of the new freshmen to post about dropping their kids off at OCU (classes start tomorrow), but I guess none of them are still posting here. My D is a senior there. Can't believe she only has one more year!

Ya Musicmom...I was kind of looking for that and how the kids are doing since they have been there. :) Congrats on your DD's senior year. I can't imagine, or I guess in a way I can cause my DS just couldn't possibly be a senior in high school this year grin

jbg, We are flying since its an 11 hour drive for us. (Texas is BIG!!! :))

srw, Oh my! Do you feel comfortable sharing? If not, you could PM me...I'd really like to know what happened as OCU is my D's "top" choice. I hope everything is okay and I'm sure it will all work out for your son. I've read your posts in the past and I appreciate all of your input.

I dropped off my Freshmen D last week at OCU! I was prepared for a beating but it went very smoothly. It was pouring cats and dogs but the temp was nice in the high 70's. It warmed back up to the high 90's by the end of the week and boy that was miserable. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. They did an outstanding job with orientation for both the kids and parents. Also every night, they had some kind of social activity for the students to get to know each other. The music students were kept very busy with theory placement, dance leveling and lots of mandatory meetings. Plus my D decided to rush so she had that as well. I left feeling she couldn't have made a better choice and she was very happy! Plus, the new dorms are wonderful!

TXKatsmom, You are right....Texas is big LOL We are in North Texas so only a three hour drive. We can't decide if we'll drive back home the same day. When we went to visit it was a long two days even with staying over night grin

zappos....Thanks for sharing. I'm glad her move in went well. Keep us posted on how she is doing this year and whats going on!! I'll be excited to hear what kids are doing what shows, as we may drive over for one or two this fall :)

With two heading to school the same week we had to split up the duties so my wife and D took off for OCU(about 13 hours) while I and first D headed to Nashville for her Sr. year at Vanderbilt School of Engineering.
The reports are very similar lots of rain, lots of activities and the new dorms are great. Brit had met lots of people on Facebook so it seemed she was returning to school aqnd knew many people. She is sure she made the right choice accepting. She has been so busy with the placement and leveling. Then throw in Rush, she is now in Gamma Phi Beta, it was a very busy time. Now that classes have started she is happy with everything of course that is after two days we will see. She was happy about the Footloose audition but with about 180 people auditioning she isn't expecting much for Freshmen. First class with Birdwell yesterday, very exciting but also intimidating.
As it was with my older D it is early and the bumps are still going to show up but today this seems like a really good decision!

Just thought I'd pop in and see how many of the "old" OCU parents were still around. Welcome to the new parents. Looking forward to meeting some of you. SRW - I'm very disappointed that I won't be seeing your S in shows this year!

Davislcab, thanks for the update. Is Birdwell her private voice teacher? My D says that Birdwell 'hand-picks' her students. Oh, and on a side-note Vanderbilt is mine and my husband's alma mater! :)

mtpop, good to hear from you! I'm still around, but don't check in as often as I used to. It's hard to believe we have gone from that freshman stars 101 meeting to the senior year. Did your S get cast in Footloose? Although I have no idea if the cast list has even gone up, my D was not called back, so I will assume she is not cast. I, too, am disappointed about srw's son not returning. So talented!

Hi MTpop, I understand your S has been cast in a really great role! Congrats! My S did that role in HS and it has remained one of his favorites.
Thanks for the kind words MTpop and Music mom
I will miss OCU and seeing all your kids perform! Such talented kids. I hope some of the "newbees" will keep posting on here and let us know how their kids are doing down there. My S misses it terribly. Between here on CC and my S still being in touch with his friends down there I will get to keep up with how everybody is doing. I have through PMing talked with some of you re: my S's changes and when things have settled down a bit I will post on here how things are going.

Congrats to those cast in Footloose! My D's best guy friend whose a freshmen got cast as well as another freshmen girl.

Does anyone have the dates for parents weekend? Isn't there also a Mom's weekend as well? I was given so many papers at Orientation that I'm afraid I've lost some of them!

Zappos, D got a call back, she said only 4 Freshmen were called back for the dance, but she was not cast. I really thought the Freshmen would not get much of a chance. Glad it appears I was wrong.

Parents weekend is 10/31 - 11/2 but I cannot find anywhere that explains if anything is being done. At Vandy they had tons of things sceduled for the parents and families but I have not found anything except that it is alum weekend and Homecoming at the same.
I hope it is just that I am looking in all the wrong places.

I believe you will either get a brochure in the mail or email with more information about parents' weekend as it gets closer.

OK. D hasn't answered my email yet. What part did mtpop's son get? I am familiar with Footloose since D did a community theatre production this summer.
