r#1/r#b classes

hi. I have to take the writing r1a class in the spring and I'm not sure whether I can do South Asian r5b (doesnt say r5a is a prereq). Is it advisable to take a r1a before r1a? Is true that the higher the R number the easier the class is? Any help on choosing a class would help. Thanks!

You are supposed to take a R#A class before a R#B class. All R#B classes have R#A as a prereq.

It's not true that the R5A's are easier than the R2A's which are easier than the R1A's. You might have heard people say that because generally the South Asian, Scandinavian, German, etc. departments name their RC classes R5a, while English will have R1a, and English tends to be harder. But that's not entirely true, because the difficulty of the class is really dependent on the teacher. I've heard of some not so easy Scandinavian RC's and some pretty easy English RC's
