Race on the Common Application

I really hate to ask this question, but I’m in a bit of a conflict.
My dad is black (from Africa) and my mom is Filipino.
My brother claims that identifying with black will help me (even if it’s only a little), while a friend of mine claims that since Filipinos are not part of the ORM asian, that a mix of the two is more unique.
I do identify stronger with my dad’s side since I have lived overseas with his family for a large portion of my childhood, so putting that I identify as just black isn’t necessarily leaving out any truth.

(Extra info: when my brother applied to college, he only put that he was black. He was accepted to a school that many people considered him slightly under qualified for)

In your opinions, when race becomes the last deciding factor of an applicant, is being black more likely to help? or mixed asian and black?

If it’s the latter, why do you think that?

Just for clarification, in no way am I trying to make myself look like someone I’m not. I just want to know what the best way to present myself is. Everyone knows that race plays somewhat of a role in the college application process.
Thanks!

bump?

Tick both boxes. But the black identication will probably trump all bcs that is the category that colleges have the most difficulty to recruit.
