Anyone at Emory care to opine on this?
Beta?s Cheers Are Offensive | The Emory Wheel
The comments are pretty rough, as is the description of the events...

First I’ve heard of it. My first thoughts are, “That’s inappropriate.”, “That is uncharacteristic of my experiences here.”, and “That isn’t actually racist, though it is nationalist and ignorant.”

If you’re a prospective student, I wouldn’t let it scare you off. This is the first I’ve ever heard of an incident like that.

The minority students that I know, Asian or otherwise, are generally well accepted on campus. If we have a problem though, I would say that we could use a little less self-segregation at social events–though, this is a collective (and not ultimately very serious) problem.

Please don’t let a few foolish students represent the entire Emory student body.

Did the Emory Wheel ever print something like this before? I usually check the Emory Wheel and noted that there weren’t many articles written about stuff like this.

Nor would it be typical. Emory has a significant Asian community, a relationship with Korea going back into the 1800s, a presence in India and the Dalai Lama as a Distinguished Professor. Emory grads are highly recruited to teach English in Korea.
