Can anyone shed some light on the UNL Raikes School. Especially how it compares to Stanford or MIT and how the graduates and students are viewed nationally. My goal is to become a software engineer in the valley so will this school give me the opportunities to do that?
The school isn’t well-known nationally but its reputation is growing. Google has started coming to the recruiting fairs and there are Raikes grads at Google in Mountain View and in Boulder. Many at Microsoft. The thing that will get you in the door isn’t the Raikes School per se but the project work you’ll do in Design Studio and the skills you’ll be able to demonstrate because of that. (FYI, my son is a Raikes student.)
I am curious about the Raikes scholarship and dorm. Does the scholarship cover room and board completely or partially? What is it like living in Kauffman?
Maybe someone else can comment on Kauffman but I’ll mention that there are different levels of scholarships. My (OOS) son was NMSF and got a Chancellor’s Scholarship/full ride + stipend but not all students do.
Not sure if your son is there yet, but if you get the Raikes scholarship and the room/board scholarship in Kauffman, do you take all of your meals at the center or can you eat anywhere on campus?
The meal plan is the standard UNL 7-day plan. Kauffman doesn’t have its own cafeteria. So, you can eat at any of the regular UNL dining centers.

Thinking of having my C put in a last minute application as a parent’s choice school/program. Could you tell me if there were essays on the application? If so, how many and how long were they? Thanks.
