I've been in prelim review for EVER. 12/17 to be exact. Anyways, they didn't ask for my grades, but I submitted them anyways. Does that mean anything? Who don't they ask grades for?

I know a lot of us are very confused about what is going on with our apps. Just post your problems here and maybe we can find some answers.

Bump. Can somebody offer some advice on this...i.e. maybe someone that was admitted last year (no scholarship) without senior year grades? I have solid stats (32 ACT / 3.75 UW GPA) and I'm thinking maybe that's why they haven't asked yet, even though I sent my app in way early...but I really have no idea.

Not to state the obvious, but have you called them? USC gets 30,000+ applications (plus 5,000+ in transfers), so things don't always go smoothly.

I'm preliminary since the 3rd of December. I've called them twice and they have confirmed that they have gotten everything that they need and that I just haven't been acted upon by the committee.

They also haven't asked for my senior first semester grades but I sent them in anyways and they've confirmed receiving them too.

Yeah I'm the same as QuixoticRick -- I did call them, and they say they have everything, including mid-year grades...so I'm not sure what's the hold up. I know they have a lot of applications, but I applied for Dec. 10 (I wasn't expecting a scholarship or anything I just wanted to get it in priority.)

I think they work in stages. Some people will be admitted earlier than others. If you haven't been admitted yet and they ask for your midyear grades at least you know you're not in the reject pile and still have a chance.

I don't think anyone is in the reject pile as of now, especially if you're still in preliminary. Unless, of course, you have an SAT score that is significantly lower than USC's average.

Just called the admission office and the admission counselor told me that they have yet to act on all the applications sent in by the scholarship deadline.

Therefore, those who still have their status stuck on the "being reviewed" phase, but who have not had a request asking for midyear grades, should just be patient and wait for the committee to act on their applications. Hope this helps.

Well, I think you can definitely try to send in your midyear grades if they demonstrate an upward trend, but in no way are you obligated to do so if you are in the "being reviewed" phase.

However, some have sent them in anyway in hope of waking the sleepy giant, so the speak, and have had their statuses changed to the "we have received and do not require any more documents" phase.

just because they asked for your midyear grades doesn't mean your're not in the reject pile. I called USC today and the lady told me there are many reasons why they ask, and based on individual cases it might be good or might be bad. So basically no one knows except the committee

I submitted the mid-year grades, called USC and the lady said they had received them and updated my status to the: "We have received your mid-year grades...will send decisions by April 1"

It suddenly switched back to:
We have completed an initial review of your application and would like to see the results of the first term of your senior year (final, not mid-term marks). If you haven't already done so, please submit these results at www.usc.edu/MDYResponse.

BUT it didn't change the "last updated" time, but kept the same time of the other status which I mentioned in the first paragraph...what's going on??

infiniteabyss- So far, no one in the "being reviewed" phase has been asked to submit midyear grades. And if you don't think your midyear grades will help your case, then don't submit it until they ask for it.

we contacted our regional admissions person about this, and she said to go ahead and submit them - that it is mentioned on the status page that there is a link, and she sounded kind of surprised that we were even debating the idea. I got the impression from her that everyone should submit.

Mine also switched from "We have received your mid-year report" to "Please send us your mid-year report" - but yeah, I'm guessing it's just a bug.

I haven't faxed a copy of my report card yet because my school hasn't sent them out yet. Gah, I'm so anxious.

I'm FREAKING out because I applied by the Scholarship deadline and I have solid stats, valedictorian, 4.0 UW, 4.7 W gpa, 34 ACT...and they wanted my mid-year grades and I read somewhere that the 3rd wave is already being sent out..

I'm thinking that the third wave is pretty much over and done with. There hasn't been any news of more acceptances recently, so I think USC is taking a short break to catch up with all the applications.
