Seems as though there is a new forum with a lot of CCers that is by invitation only that just started a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t invited, but maybe one of the “cool kids” will see your post and invite you.
Are you guys talking about something @ChuckleDoodle offered to try and create last year, but then she (or he?) had some bad personal stuff going on?
ETA - @MomofWildChild, I guess I’m not a “cool kid” either.
No- this is new. It’s on Slack. I think they wanted to continue the COVID discussion and politics.
I’m not a “cool kid” either.
My question is: should I be concerned about that?
Yes, the question I posted about was. I believe the poster’s spouse was extremely ill and passed away during that period. The subject was dropped as far as I know because the forum changed the look of things so we could read easier…
@VaBluebird, I think that was chuckdoodle.
I don’t even know what slack is - I’ll have to check it out (but I didn’t get any invite either).
Slack is a fancy instant messaging system/glorified chatroom. We use it at work, it has replaced a large percentage of what we used to do over email.
I don’t know if there’s a free version, my company pays for it.
I was a cool kid in high school but I think I"ve lost that quality.
My frustration with the update has abated. I wasn’t invited to any new forum and I’m not sure I want to get more politically divided …
Anyone who wants to fake should be smart enough to know how to mimic something legit. Most just aren’t aware what it takes.
Thanks! I thought that was specifically to “ask a question”!
Are reverse mortgages legit? IIRC, they got a bad rap many years ago. My BIL has no money, lousy health, but a condo, so it might be an option for him.
I think it’s like anything - if you are responsible and and can conform to the terms, it can be a good way to tap the equity while alive. If you are irresponsible with your money or your life, it could wind up being a bad move - if you don’t meet the terms (pay the taxes, keep it insured, maintain it to certain standards), the loan can be called and at that point you are typically forced to sell the place (unless you have a big pile of cash, which if you did you probably wouldn’t have a reverse mortgage).
There are issues with financing condos in general, there are additional requirements that make certain complexes very hard to finance (chiefly %age of owner-occupied and financial health of the association). I don’t know if these would apply to a reverse mortgage, but I bet they do.
My mom thought about a reverse mortgage. My sister was adamant that she not do it, there are hefty fees involved. Mom is very glad she didn’t.
My financial guy keeps advocating it. You have to live in the house. In some states, you can do a partial finance.
I dont want to ever do it because I dont want the kids to be later constrained. You have to carefully research and decide. I’d imagine a good real estate lawyer would be worth it, when making the final decision.
I’ve heard about fees, but you’re working on market value, no? Like financing off the profit/growth?
For me, staying in this house, even with property taxes and maintenance, is much less expensive than renting the right size/right location place.
If considering reverse mortgage, read fine print. If any of the owners go into another dwelling, assisted living, care home or die, might have entire amount due even if surviving spouse and/or co-owner(s) is/are still alive.
If any of the potential heirs are able to and want to buy the place and rent it back to the family, that could save considerable fees.
Thanks for the help on my door question. A local locksmith advertises repair, so I called and made an appointment. He found two problems: one with the lock itself, and a door jam problem, both of which he fixed easily.
Now no problems at all locking and unlocking the door!
New question- what would cause coffee to sometimes taste soapy? This is a drip coffee machine. Carafe is not soapy. I don’t think it’s the coffee as I made the same coffee in a French press and it tasted fine. I know that drip machines don’t make the highest quality cup of coffee but I’m addicted to setting the machine the night before and having my H bring me my coffee in bed.
@mom60- nothing like coffee in bed! Have you tried running vinegar and water through the machine (or whatever the manufacturer suggests) for cleaning? Vinegar can be good for eliminating any soap residue. If you try it, afterwards run plain water through it for one or two cycles to be sure it is well rinsed. Hope you solve the problem.
Might also have been an issue with the mug.
