How would you rank the big 10 schools, from best to worst...or most to least prestigious, for those PC lovers.

this is a stupid thread.

In order of Academic Excellence/Academic Prestige IMO.

Northwestern University

University of Michigan

University of Wisconsin

Purdue University

Penn State University

Indiana University

Ohio State University

University of Iowa

University of Minnesota

University Of Illinois

R1400, why is this a stupid thread? Some students really wish to go to a Big 10 school.

Illinois would not be last...it would actually be among the top. CIC/Big 10 ratings if you ask me:

1) Northwestern University
1) University of Chicago
1) University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
4) University of Wisconsin-Madison
5) Unibersity of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
6) Indiana University-Bloomington
6) Pennsylvania State University
6) University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
9) Michigan State University
9) Ohio State University
9) Purdue University-West Lafayette
9) University of Iowa

Big 10 is a conference, like the SEC or the ACC or any other conference.

my god....

yesss...thank you for telling me now i understand lol...i'm sooo not into that but for some people it is indeed important =D thanks!

Trizkutt, I didn't know what the Big 10 was until I came to the US. Even then, I probably would not have known what the Big 10 was for a while longer had I not attended a Big 10 school. I have also noticed that people who don't care for sports probably won't know what the Big 10, or the ACC or the SEC is. If Darkhope does not know what the Big 10 is, he/she probably won't understand SFODKevin's definition.

Darkhope, the Big 10 is an athletic conference. Its members play each other in most sports in order to establish a conference champion. Other major sports conferences include the Southeastern Conferences (SEC), the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Pacific 10 Conference (PAC 10) and the Big XII Conference.

Trizkutt, Chicago did once belong to the Big 10 conference. They dropped out in the 1930s and MSU was added in the 1950s. In 1993, PSU was added. But all of those schools, along with the remaining Big 10 conference institutitons all belong to the CIC, including Chicago.

MSU was admitted to the Big 10 in 1948 (over the U. of Pittsburgh). They were 1st integrated into Big 10 football in 1951 or 52, I believe.

US News Peer Assessment

Michigan 4.5
Northwestern 4.4
Wisconsin 4.2
Illinois 4
Indiana 3.8
Minnesota 3.8
Penn State 3.8
Purdue 3.8
Ohio State 3.7
Iowa 3.6
Michigan State 3.5

Michigan has a better peer assessment than Northwestern? Interesting...

^yeah, that's strange.
