is there a chance i’ll end up in the all girls floor in unit three if i didn’t request it?

on the housing app, there was a question that stated do you want to coed floor, single sex floor, or don’t care. I have known of people getting put into single sex floors after having specifically requested a coed floor.

what is the closest library to foothill?

Technically the chemistry library is the closest to foothill, but the main stacks is also quite near and that’s where people go most of the time.

isn’t there also a library in building 8 (or so i heard) how are the facilities there?

Where are the triples which have 3 closets located? Do they exist in Unit 1?

milk: not really a library per se, but you can go there to study if you need to. it’s just an empty room with some/no books in there…but there’s also huge study lounges/classrooms in foothill (although they converted one into a mini-gym).
steven: memory serves me correct, unit 3 has the 3 closets. unit one has standard two closet…so you either end up sharing or hope one of your roommates lives close enough to not even need a closet.

For Clark Kerr, are there any libraries that are close?

I want to get back to my room before it gets dark so that i dont have to walk all the way in the dark or take the shuttle, but i also dont wanna do all my hw in my room, just in case people on my floor are loud.

Lived in U3

Social atmosphere - Great, Southside is awesome and it’s closest to all the restaurants.
Dorm size - Smaller than U1/2 but more than liveable
Cost - They’re pretty much all the same
Food - Cafe 3 is about 34646236x better than Crossroads, and 2x better than Foothill
Distance to campus - Closest!
etc, etc. - It looks dinky but I didnt really mind that too much

there aren’t libraries close to Clark Kerr, if you want though, you can go to the ASC (academic student center) to do hw/research etc

ASC is like a library without books in the sense that there are computers, printers color and black/white, desks and couches for you to use. they have free tutoring there too.

a lot of ppl do hw there, if they dont wanna stay in the room for whatever reasons. you can also go to the lounge, CKC has absolutely fantastic lounge with a separate room inside the lounge, which is custom made into a study area, with personal desks/lamps/plugs.

the ASC is located within each dorms, in clark kerr it’s in the main building, building 1, which is the center of clark kerr campus, and it opens till 12am on days where there’s school the next day.

lounges don’t close, it’s 24-7 access, so are the study rooms in the lounges

bump :)

interested to know how the social atmosphere is like in clark kerr. i definitely want to be in a really social environment (unit 3 seems to be best for that from what i’ve read) but i’d like to live in a spacious area with nice architecture. i really don’t mind the long walk but i’m worried that clark kerr is cliquey/antisocial. thoughts?

Eh. IMHO Units 1 and 2 have much nicer-looking and more convenient utilities. For example, the dorms in Unit 1 have a laundry machine on every floor, whereas all the buildings of Unit 3 share one laundry room below the cafeteria. Unit 1 just FEELS more cleaner and spacious. I don’t really think Unit 3 is all that more social in comparison to the other units, but I’d be willing to believe it’s more so than Foothill. Nothing wild and exciting happens in the dorms typically except loud, giggling neighbors and residents coming back drunk on weekends and vomiting in the sink. There’s also no real interaction between people of different buildings in the units unless you already know them otherwise, mostly because you can’t get in unless you know someone and they sign you in. To the person who asked about theme programs, they are limited to one floor in one building, so if you are in a different building in the same unit it’s basically irrelevant to you. Unit 3 is close by, but Unit 1 is not too far off either. If you go to Clark Kerr, then you might have to take a bus.

I don’t hear much about Foothill; is there something bad about it? What dorm would allow me to share a bathroom with the least number of people?

thanks for the response kazeno!

how convenient is it to take the bus from clark kerr to the main parts of the campus? does the bus come often/on schedule?

Which one would you recommend for a Physics major, campus-distance-wise?

Questions about housing…
Hi, I’m a newly admitted student to Berkeley.I have some questions about Berkeley housing…
How many people live in a Single room in Mini-Suite(or Suite)?Does Single room in Mini-Suite(or suite) have an independent room for study?
How many people live in a Double room in Mini-Suite?Does Double room in Mini-Suite have two seperate bedrooms and an independent room for study?
By the way, How many people live in a Double room in Suite?how does Double Room in Suite differs from Double room in Mini-Suite?Does Double Room in Suite have two seperate bedrooms and an independent room for study?

Thank you!I will appreciate your answers~

for people who didn’t get into the dorms and are considering alternative housing… (particularly if you’re looking at telegraph commons - this will mostly apply to FPF kids) - search telegraph commons on yelp, I wrote a review of my experience there last semester.

that being said, i’m a freshman in my second semester currently living in a house (shared with two women, a senior and a PHD student), single room to myself, after having moved out of telegraph commons (shared room with a freshman), and i am liking this living situation a LOT better.

Is it likely that a freshmen will get a suite in the units? or do most people put the suites as a top choice?

how are the bathrooms? I honestly don’t mind a small room and getting a triple, as long as the bathrooms are nice.

I’m a transfer student that will probably be at Berkeley next semester. On the housing website I see the Maximino Martinez Commons, those look really nice and fun and are supposed to be brand new and opening for the 2012-2013 school year. Is it under construction right now or have any students checked it out at all? What are your opinions on it if you have any?

@canhazphysics - foothill! People make it sound like it’s a horrible place to be, but trust me, I LOVED the place. The rooms are big, it’s quiet enough for constructive studying… and I mean, some people don’t really want a constant party at their place if they’re trying to sleep. If you want to party, frat row is a block away.
