Gosh darn it!

I moved this thread to the 2nd page because I was posting so much!

Must beat Repede!

^And now I must do it again.

My internet is just too fast. #FirstWorldProblems

0/10

Poster above listed no ECs. Therefore, he has none and deserves a 0.

^-10/10

Poster above complained of someone’s EC’s who we have already established is being the king of HSL, obviously the best of them all

“Most active memeber on HSL”

LOL

^I never thought it would be me.

In fact, I’d like to thank the Academy…of IT and Engineering [My High School’s name]!

@Apollo: Actually, just for the record, dfree124 is the king of HSL (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/15680331-post9414.html).

0/10 for Apollo for making false claims.

I know, but I stole the crown when said king graduated. Duh!

0/10 Mets for bad information

Rising senior(class of 2014)

8.5/10

This may seem harsh compared to the others, but there are several reasons IMO

Why only one year’s worth of one club, DECA?

Good mentorship program stuff

The community service is above average, but not mind shattering

The business isn’t amazing if it grossed 4 figures, but I can see that it is moderately successful. However, I’d call 10,000+ a better spot to be in

Explain the ‘marketing’ thing more. Is it a real thing? Are these clients big clients? You run the legal aspect of a company? Is it an LLC?

^
Lol, don’t criticize me like that. I’m aware of their suckishness.

@lilbbased: 9/10

Holy crap. That’s a lot. I’d give you a 9.5/10.

I don’t really have much, but why not?

I play soccer pretty competitively against the best teams in the region. My team has to travel out of state just for regular season games. Looking to play in college. This takes up most of my time.

Varsity XC.

Vice president of German club, maybe president next year?

I’m joining NHS next year, so I’ll get a lot of volunteering in. It’s pretty serious at my school.

That’s about it… I’m a rising junior. XD

@Apollo

1) I didnt care about school ECS lol. The 1 year will be the senior year starting in fall.
2) Thanks.
3) Yeah
4) The virtual item business is not the big thing. I did that asa hobby
5) The marketing business helps optimize clients website’s in Google and search engines. The 10 clients pay me ~300-500 a month for my services each.

meh, i just do the ECs im interested in, aka things that i feel strongly about. i try to weed out the unnecessary ECs that eat up my time.

not even gonna post here because my ECs are kinda weak. just give me a 0/10 :D

@flapjacks, 8. Straightforward focus. Maybe more volunteer hours prior to junior year? Try to get a leadership position in NHS. Good commitment to sports though.

i didn’t feel like posting initially because i was too lazy to think up of all my ECs. anyways, i found it somewhere in my google docs drive. here it is…

didnt include my awards, but whatevers

I’d give you a 9. I like that you focus on medical/science EC’s like Relay for Life, Red cross, Harvard Med Intern, Biology Olympiad, etc. It definitely shows you have a passion for that field. Some of them are pretty original and help you stand out, it’s not just the standard EC’s. There are quite a few leadership positions already and you are only a sophomore which helps a ton! The only reason I gave you a 9 instead of a 10 is that your list is REALLY long - I feel like it’d be impossible to devote sufficient time to each EC. Maybe weed out 2-3 that you don’t enjoy much to show more passion/devotion with the ones you keep.

Now for mine… I feel a 1 or 2 coming lol. I haven’t done much. Thankfully, only 1 or 2 schools I’m applying to considers ECs to be extremely important!

Softball

Band

Other

I’d give that a 7/10, baileyj57- don’t sell yourself short. I disagree with a lot of the ratings on this page- it isn’t about how many EC’s you have or how impressive they are to others, as long as you are passionate about what you choose to do. Since most of your EC’s are sports-centric, its easy to tell you love baseball. Explain how much that means to you, and you’ll probably be accepted. Also, you have band and some academic clubs on the side, making you a really well rounded individual.

Now for mine… future reviewer, if it isn’t too much trouble, could you also explain your rating? Thanks! (Note this is a predicted EC list)

Clubs:
Art club (9 only- got cancelled)

Students for Political Activism (10,11,12)
Model Congress (10,11,12)

Volunteering:
Middle school tutoring (9)
Volunteering at a local food shelter (10,11,12)
KIVA club (10,11,12)
Volunteering at the library (all summers)
Funding a school in rural China (10,11,12)

*Honor societies:
Art honor society
Science honor society
Chinese honor society
NHS

thing is, i’m passionate about all of them… grr D:

should i quit flute, even though i’ve played since 4th grade? it makes my ECs look more well-rounded though…

also, do you guys have any other tips for me?

Paintallthestuff, your ECs look good. I would give you either a 7/10. You seem to have a nice and varied list of extracurricular activities. One downside is that it is hard to tell where your passions lie. (though from your username I would guess that art is a passion). Still, I think your ECs are strong. Don’t worry about them!

Ok, here are my extracurriculars.

Piano Activities(classically trained for 11 years)
Private lessons (9,10,11), School arts competition(9,10,11) recognized as being one of the highest scorers (9,11), National Piano Guild scored in the highest category each year (9,10,11),Music festival on French composers (10), Member of school jazz band (11), charity concerts (9 and 11), other various concerts and masterclasses over my high school years

Oboe Activities (classically trained for 4.5 years)
Private Lessons (9,10,11), Member of school band (9,10,11), Founder of woodwind quintet (10,11), Member of a professional pit orchestra (11), Accompanied a choir (paid job) (11),Teacher for a chamber music camp (paid job) (10,11), Oboist for community youth orchestra (9,10,11)

Student Government (9,10,11)
Student Body Senate (secretary in 10th and 11th grade), Spiritual life committee (organized a couple events), NHS

Church Activities (a little bit in 9 and 10 but mostly 11)
Member of youth group, keyboardist in worship band, Part of youth group leadership committee, Volunteer in sunday school for little kids

Activities I hope to be a part of in 12th grade
I transfered schools (long story) so many of these specific activities will change. I will still be active in music, student gov, and church though.

^I would give that a 10/10! It looks like you are really passionate about all the extracurricular activities you do.

Violin (4 years):
Founder of String Quartet
Senior Districts (I’m not sure if it’s only in my state, but it’s an orchestra which combines various local districts music players. You have to audition for it, and I have no idea how I got in this year haha, I’m so bad at auditions!)
School Pit Orchestra
Played in another orchestra at a Conservatory, 3 years
Music Festival, Gold (2 years)
Playing violin at senior homes, volunteering at music camps, etc.

Other:
Farmer’s Market volunteer
Environmental Club
National German Exam, Gold

My activities look really random at the moment, so any advice for how to expand them would be appreciated! Thanks so much c: I have no idea why I’m worrying about ECs as a rising sophomore, but I guess I just couldn’t resist. Please bear with me haha!
