RD acceptance letter!!

I believe that "Early writes" typically go to students who fill a specifically targeted priority at Swarthmore

I also agree. The only other student who applied from my school was sent an early write -- he was a recruited athelete (baseball). His SAT (M,W,V) was just slightly higher than my M+V :(.

i received an early write, and i dont think i fit into a targeted area

the process seems random

Maybe you're just the perfect student for Swarthmore.

If you applied to Swat, and you are a minority/target or something, and you didn't get an early write, does that mean that you didn't get in.

And once again, if you have to have the RtT stuff in by the 29th, then how will other RDers respond in time?

Life isn't fair

"if you have to have the RtT stuff in by the 29th, then how will other RDers respond in time?"

I think only "early writes" have to have stuff in by 29th, because Swarthmore pays for their trip.

Not ALL minority students get early writes. It does not mean you won't get in, you just have to wait longer to find out.

wait... do all early writes get their trip paid for? am i missing something?

Oh okay. Good. So do you think that the EW things could be targetted at low-income families? Because if that's true it would make perfect sense as to what I'm experiencing, b/c I got an EW but another girl with way better stats than I hasn't gotten anything, but her EFC is about 4 times what mine is so....

i did not apply for any financial aid whatsoever (my parents are both doctors) and i still got an early-write so i'm not really sure they would be targetted at low-income families.

i'll say that i'm asian with decent, but far from amazing stats. to put it simply i have no idea how i received an early-write...not that i am complaining :).

Aw man Swat, you are ridiculously random and confusing, but I still love you. I just hope that my friends get in too.

i think that those of you who didn't receive EW shouldn't [sorry i wrote that wrong...thanks imiracle911] worry too much. you guys will probably hear sometime next week and keep in mind that most people didn't get EW. just keep your hopes up! it will only hurt you if you worry too much

ek 1099 i think u wrote it wrong. But yeh i get ur point. I think Swat's Early writes not really based on stats that much. THey value the why swat essay and the common essay a lot so ur essays must have shined

Hmmm...just wondering....do all admitted students receive a paid trip for RTT (ed, ew, rd alike)??

I sure hope so...because if my friend gets in, I'd like her to come with me.

"do all admitted students receive a paid trip for RTT?"

No, most do not. Butt all admited students are invited to attend.

Just to summarize:

a) There are probably 100 different reasons why an applicant might receive an "early write". Don't try to read anything into getting one or not getting one. You'll drive yourself crazy over something that is so individualized that you could never draw sweeping conclusions.

b) All accepted students, no matter when they are accepted, are invited to Ride the Tide.

c) A small percentage of accepted students are offered free travel to and from Ride the Tide. Generally speaking, free travel is offered to students with various combinations of minority status and/or financial need. It is part of a recruiting effort to increase diversity (of all types) on campus. Once you get to Swarthmore, everything is free at Ride The Tide for everyone who attends.

interesteddad, do you know if all early writes get a free trip to Swat?

^^If yes, then I guess this could be a great reason not to accept a Discovery Weekend student with an early write...a waste of money...

Discovery Weekenders definitely did get early writes.
Out of the 6 or 7 people I know from DW, at least 4 got EWs.

BabyBelugaWhale, do you know if they got another free trip to Swarthmore?

I got an early write and did not get a free trip to RTT.

I know 6 DWers including myself who got EWs and paid expenses...

(some of the DWers I'm referring to might overlap w/ the ppl BabyBelugaWhale is referencing)

BTW, did anyone get an Evans scholarship/interview? I know of one person who did, who was also a DWer.
