Proudfather – I don’t have a clue why she would be rejected.
We visited in the fall, but I don’t know that RPI is rejecting people who don’t visit.
We live 3 hours away, so visiting in one day was very feasible.

So, I don’t see a link on the admissions letter, should I assume I got nothing or should are they going to eventually get to it?

@proudfather That’s really strange - especially because they need girls! Maybe she didn’t have enough extracurricular activities? Or they didn’t like her essay? Or her teacher recommendations? Or maybe it’s just one of those random event where kids who should be accepted aren’t. Did she demonstrate interest in the school? If they didn’t believe she would come, they might have rejected her. Has she been accepted anywhere else?

Yes, you will eventually get a financial aid letter.

@RunsWScissors I’m referring to merit aid though

DS also accepted with no link to financial aid. Guessing it will show up later. Kids seem used to glitchy rollouts this year.

So to clarify for those who did not receive any financial info, those of you who did, was it a complete financial aid package or just merit aid award notification?

DD accepted – no link to financial aid/merit. She does not qualify for FA and therefore did not fill out forms—I’m wondering if a merit award is still possible even though the acceptance letter does not have a Financial Aid link on it? She had hoped to get a leadership scholarship. Has anyone received a merit scholarship from RPI today and they didn’t apply for FA? Thanks!

It was a full FA package including merit.

waitlisted
2190, 800, 770, 4.0

That is why I am thinking that if you filled out FAFSA & CSS and don’t have a financial aid link they just don’t have your aid package ready yet, so hang in there. And congrats to all who got in!

Son was accepted. Did not apply for FA but was awarded a Leadership Award for 24,500. Keep checking your page if there is nothing there, maybe they update.

Thanks. LAMUNIV and marymac. I’m just a bit stunned because they have a 40% acceptance rate and a higher rate for females - i thought 75% . We also did a visit, but last summer. In addition, they arranged a special tour for our daughter - meeting with undergraduates and science teachers. Did RPI just get swamped with applications this year, or was it stil about 11,500?

To desie1. She showed interest, but I don’t believe she declared a specific school. We had a half-day visit there last summer. The admissions office even arranged for her to meet with undergraduate students and professors. No, she has not gotten accepted at any other schools. We’re just stunned. Can you appeal these kind of decisions?

Proudfather: Could she have gotten “Tufts-ed”? Do they perhaps think SHE is out of THEIR reach?

@proudfather not sure about that one, though most colleges will release that info in the coming days. What were her extracurriculars, recommendations, and essay like? And her predicted major? I am female and accepted with 2270 SAT and A- ish average (school doesn’t report GPA or rank), so our stats sound relatively similar so far. I’m also first generation college, if that helps at all.

@proudfather I don’t think that you will be able to appeal, but I would definitely have your daughter call admissions on Monday. (and I would have her guidance counselor call too - maybe you can find out some kind of plausible explanation) That visit to RPI should have been enough in demonstrated interest. Your daughter will be fine in the end - she will get in someplace that’s perfect for her. (It’s RPI’s loss!) This happens every year at every school - some students who should have been easy admits get rejected. But it doesn’t mean that it will happen to her anywhere else!

I got waitlisted. 3.2, 1650, a huge upward trend, and an amazing essay.

Son accepted 15K Rensselaer Medalist. (I’ll take the 24K that some other dad was unhappy with
Kind of amazed at the stats of some folks that are waitlisted/denied - some pretty smart kids will be going elsewhere.

Got accepted as a math major!

So thankful that even though I wasn’t mature enough to handle a rigorous courseload my first few years of high school that effort will be recognized.

Maybe getting in as a math major is just easier though

3.0 UW GPA, like 90th in my class, 2130 SAT, 800 Math II, 5’s on Calc AB and Statistics, A in the equivilant to BC at local Ivy League school through high school program

Edit: So the financial aid in the letter is just for the 2014-2015 school year? Will there be more after?
