D was accepted yesterday.
We are firmly middle class, and the fin. aid offer was the best so far, even more $ than schools who supposedly offer merit, and she is very merit-worthy in terms of academics.
Colgate moved to the top of the list!

Where are you from MADad?

Accepted. OK Aid package... we're going to work them up a little. I'd really consider it if the aid is a little better. I love the school... it's so darn beautiful.

Accepted! yay! wasn't expecting it at ALL

yay!

they gave me more financial aid than all my other schools so far! I wasn't expecting ANY, it's actually enough- I'll still have to take loans but I won't feel like I'll have to live out of a box when I graduate :)

they wrote a little note on my letter about what they liked about my application :) it still hasn't really registered that I got in! oh my goshsshshshh

yeah on the bottom of my letter there was also a note. just that one extra touch is really making me consider colgate.

I have visited Colgate two times now including one overnight. At each of the visits the kids there have been so friendly and clearly love the school. When I emailed my hostess from my overnight that I got in she asked me where else I was considering and before I told her she said it doesn't matter because I have to come to Colgate. I am looking for great academics but also a place to have great experiences with plenty of cool people.

now Im so confused b/c I wasn't expecting it
it's Colgate or Wellesley for me ... if Wellesley doesn't improve my financial aid package then it's most likely Colgate for me!

nidachti:

Eastern Massachusetts, D at public HS

I just accepted today.

"I love the school... it's so darn beautiful."

I find I hear that a lot. I think Colgate knows it too-- there's a picture on the letter next to the address!

Oh wow, top 200? Damn. I didn't get any financial aid from Colgate. :(

Could it be because my family's in the $500,000 + income bracket?
[and i'm not trying to sound cocky, just wondering if the financial aid people are recieving was need-based or merit-based]

Financial aid is need-based. If your family's income is 500+, you wouldn't be eligible.

Thanks MAdad. I guess that if your daughter heard on Friday, I'm doomed. I'm in easter MA too.

Colgate's financial aid is all need-based. The only form of merit aid is the AMS program, which is a one time $5K grant for study or travel, awarded to the top 200 accepted students.

I'm an international student and I received my acceptance package today. :)

Unfortunately, the finaid package isn't as great as that of Sarah Lawrence and Carleton, the other two that accepted me.

I can't make a decision!

Hey, what kind of mail did you get it in? Fedex / UPS or priority mail?

I got an "Explore Colgate University" email today. Since the decisions have been sent out, and I'm still on the email list, and the chat link was in theemail, and the next chat is Accepted Students Chat, should I anticipate good news?

You could try appealing your financial aid package, death cab.

Sounds like good news to me CurlyFry. I haven't heard anything from Colgage and didn't get that e-mail so I'm figuring on a waitlist or rejection.

Well, I kept getting those emails, like once every month... since I put myself on the mailing list. Did you get all the previous emails?

My parents and I decided not to fill out the CSS profile for financial aid. Do you think I still have a chance to get some money talking to them?

oh my god ACCEPTED!!
I got a huge financial aid package as well, bigger than all other schools I got into!!

lol congrats!
