RD Chances

Hi. I'm a white girl from Indiana. I come from a very large diverse public school.
My unweighted GPA is a 3.43 and my weighted is a 4.52.
I'm a captain of the swim team. I'm in Student Council and Habitat for Humanity.
I'm ranked 64th out of 817 students.
I've taken nothing but honors classes except for those pesky little prereqs, like speech and gym.
My AP classes and the AP score I got:
World History 2
US History 4
Euro History 5
Chemisty 4
English 3

And this year I'm taking a whole lot:
Economics
Government
English
Psychology
Art History
Physics
Statistics
Calculus BC
Spanish

My SATs were CR: 700 Math: 730 and W: 690

I'm not of of those crazy CCers who has a 3.9 GPA unweighted, but I think that the strength of my class schedule is really good, plus swimming is such a huge time commitment. If I get into the school, I'll swim on the team.

great ECs
decent scores
iffy grades

id say hope for the best.

btw, what’s ur major?

Not gonna happen, my man…I’d be focused on other colleges

How can your weighted be more than 1 point above your unweighted, especially if you also have pre-reqs you had to fulfill?

Just wondering…

We get .2 weights for honors courses and all my classes are honors so his semester i got a 4.9 because i got 1.4 weights from seven honors classes.

Sigh… unfortunately for us, senior year grades don’t get factored into our GPA—are you a senior?

eab4311, how can you be so sure she will be rejected? None of her stats are that horrible, even for Hopkins.

yesnomaybeso7, you have a shot. I would say low reach, but I’m not going to declare that you will get rejected, because honestly, you do have a chance. I think a lot will depend on your essays and recs.

Don’t listen to those who blatantly reply with a no. We’re all students (except AdmissionsDaniel…) like you, so don’t rely on our judgements.

word up to the above two posts. colleges would never fill their classes with students ONLY possessing the typical qualities usually measured in the CC boards. In chance forums, a student’s gpa, sat’s, classes and EC’s get examined under a microscope. Yet, there are TONS and TONS of factors aside from these that adcoms examine in order to have a vibrant class.

the reality is that your scores alone will not be strong enough to make you a sure thing at top schools. this is the same for me, and honestly for most students (people on CC as we know are not a representative cross-section of what is out there.) Still, that doesn’t mean you won’t get in. When the acceptance rates of schools go below 30%, how much of a ‘better chance’ can one competitive student have over the next one?

It’s certainly worth applying. As long as you worked hard on the applications and made them meaningful. And as always, good luck my friend!
