Congratulations to everyone who made it. I got my rejection e-mail yesterday. Wasn't that bummed out though. I was expecting it (SAT scores just weren't high enough).

Is it bad if i got an acceptance letter, but haven't gotten any email yet?

Er, why would it be? You're in!

The email seems to go only to rejected or waitlisted international students. I was admitted, and didn't get an email.

I can't see why you were denied, either. I was accepted, but your stats are almost exactly the same as mine, except you have a better gpa, a much better rank, and research. I'm also an Asian male, except I'm a US permanent resident, so I guess it must be the international factor. But you're a very strong candidate, so I'm sure you'll get in somewhere else amazing.

For the benefit of future applicants, and since I don't see another decision thread with less comments being made:

Decision: Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2270 CR:740 M:770 W:760
[] SAT IIs: Math IIC-800, Chem-800, Phys-800
[] GPA: 5.3/6.0 uw
[] Rank: School doesn't rank, top 10%
[] AP/IB scores: Calc BC, Chem, Phys C Mech and EM, and Comp AB this year, all 5's
[] AMC12/AIME/USAMO: 126.5/6
[] Research: I did biology research completely on my own in DNA-Computation, was actually building a DNA computer in the lab, submitted paper
[] Courseload: Pretty hard I guess, AP Calc/Chem in 10th grade, Lin. Alg., Multivar, Phys, Organic Chemistry, Spectrography 11th grade
[li] Other stats: Ummmm... 2nd Place ACSL, Top ten HMMT, top twenty MAML, some award at ARML, 2nd State Science Bowl.... a bunch of things, but nothing spectacular
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Pretty good I think, I talked about my problems with the universe in a slightly humorous essay, I really liked my box.. hehe...
[] Recommendations: Didn't see, I'm guessing one good, the other great (guess which is which, HINT: This is Caltech)
[li] Hook (if any): I can't think of any, if I had one I wouldn't have been deferred EA
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: MA
[] School Type: Private BS
[] Ethnicity: Middle Eastern (but I guess that counts as white)
[] Gender: Put it this way, I won't be helping the Ratio
[li] Major strength/weakness: Depth and breath of math/science exposure / not much outside academics
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars listed on app: Math, Sci. Compsci Clubs, XC, Track (I think many Techers do running...)
[] Summer Activities: Traveling?
[] Why I think I was accepted/denied: Because the adcom was drunk... or maybe they saw my dedication to science in my academic work?
[] What's your favourite flavor of pie? Apple, no contest
[li] Other thoughts: Hmmmm... I also got into Olin.... Olin's nice, but it doesn't have anything outside engineering, and it's very, very tempting to ditch engineering and go study astrophysics at Caltech. If I go to Caltech, I'll try and fail to do a Cs/Ay double major, and then pick... one of them.[/ul]
[/li]

See little ones! There's hope for all! I was exactly like you guys a few years ago, thinking that the adcom had to be drunk to admit me (maybe they were?), but it all works out in the end. My advice: don't do stuff you don't like, stick to what you like, do it, do it a lot, and do it some more.

Oh, and before I forget, this is my first time posting an acceptance in a decisions thread... :)

Mathwiz
One of the profs in astrophysics is about the nicest person you'll ever meet. SO many opportunities. Please, don't try to predict your exact major yet. relax, experience the CORE, move around with projects. I wish I had listened to my gut and shifted my major while in college

Yay, I'll post mine (sorry, kinda late...):

Decision: Accepted
