My sons spire account went from deferred to under review today. Do you think that means he will get a decision shortly?

my application just changed today from deferred to under decision! does anyone know how long it takes for a decision to change online?

My daughter received an admission offer yesterday in the mail. Was accepted as a Psychology major (her first choice was Business). Didn’t show online so we were surprised to receive the package in the mail (we’re in CA).

My online decision didn’t change until a few days after I got my packet in the mail!

Edit: I am OOS in CT

Accepted into the Communication Disorders department.
28 ACT and 91 GPA.
I think I got the packet in the mail about a week ago.
Out of state- New York.
I haven’t visited but I’m hoping to soon!

What exactly is the commonwealth honors program. My son received 12, 000 chancellors scholarship. Sat 2180 gpa 3.9 unweighted top 8 percent of class. He got his letter march 3rd. Doesn’t say anything about commonwralth honors program.

@iculater we visited 2 yrs ago and the CHC (commonwealth honors college) was a program for the top 10%? With special small classes and projects. Since then they hv completed dorms and classrooms for CHC students. I think CHC students are in the same majors as the regular college with special classes. We plan to visit April 21. There is some info on YouTube.

We questioned UMass because my daughter’s stats were very high. She missed it because her ACT was 28. She met all other criteria (top 5% of class, GPA of 3.8). Three years ago when my son was admitted, they had some flexibility and he got in with lower test scores because of his higher rank and GPA. Apparently it has become more competitive.

This is what we were told…

Admission to the honors college is highly competitive. When reviewing students for admission to the Commonwealth Honors College, students must minimally meet all 3 of the following criteria.
-
Weighted high school gpa of A- or better
-
Rank in the top 10% of their graduating class
-
Have at least 1300 minimum on the SAT or an ACT composite of 29.

@Evergreen1929 Ok thank you…just think its a little weird since he meets all those requirements by far. Its not really a big deal…but the honors dorms and smaller classes sound nice. Just want him to have a great exoerience. I was hoping we could get to visit campus on the 21st also but just not sure we will get to go at all in april. My son has been but I haven’t gotten the chance yet. It’s about a 15 hr drive.

@dm2011 thank you for the information, maybe he can get in the second semester if he thinks he would like it.

@iculater That is what my daughter is hoping to do. My son honestly hasn’t felt that the honors has benefited him that much (and they charge more for it) but he has stuck with it. My daughter is a different person and different major - She may get more out of it.

It’s almost April and I still haven’t received an admissions letter. My account says my app is under review. I have heard from all the other colleges I applied to. Do you think I should call? Is there any of you still waiting?

@Iwolfe I don’t think it’d help. When I called back in December I believe all they said was that they would let me know when they reached a decision. I was deferred and I am also still waiting but on the page it says that decisions will be mailed out all the way until MID APRIL, which I think is ridiculous but we have to accept.

I am with you all, still waiting. I was deferred from EA, my application has been under review for over a week, and it says notifications will be decided before mid April… This all seems rather slow and daunting waiting for this decision which seems to never be coming at this rate.

My son was deferred from early action and his spire account went from deferred to under review last Friday and he still hasn’t heard. I think it horrible that umass would let some kids wait and sweat it out for over 6 months.

I feel for you guys…the wait is bad enough without being deferred. Seems like they should be finishing up soon. Good luck to you.

@dm2011 If you don’t mind me asking what is her major. Just curious. My son is majoring in physics and minoring in linguistics. We’ve been trying to determine what dorms would be best for him

@bucky0926… My daughter applied RD and has yet to hear anything. This is our state flagship! She got into other state flagships (PSU, UConn, Rutgers, Binghamton) she also was accepted to Connecticut College, Union and Syracuse. (etc)…yet nothing from UMASS. Her friends and sister all were accepted already with lower stats. I called to make sure everything was received. They said yes…and that was about it. Very annoying. This should be a no brainer for them.

@iculater My daughter’s major is business. She is hoping to be in the low-rise area of Southwest … closer to the Isenberg School, gym and activities. If your son is majoring in physics, he might want to be more around Northeast or OHill area. I saw your note in the other thread … either area would probably be good for him. Have him look into the RAPs. My son was in one his freshman year (honors medical rap) and had a great experience!

@dm2011 what is an RAP?
