Re-taking classes that I've already taken under a new name..

Okay, so I'm super p#$@#%. I found out today that I have to take Math I, II, AND III. The state changed to common core a few years ago, but I had already taken the original Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. They said that the information wouldn't be accurate for the big senior test.(My school makes us take a test aligned to all of the courses that we've taken...weird.) So I have to basically RELEARN Algebra I, and II, as well as Geometry because of the new standards. The only thing that is going to be new is certain proofs and stuff. I'm going to try and test out of those three classes, but I feel like they are pulling some prank on me or something. If they're joking, I WILL kill them. Has anything like this happened to you guys?

That is pretty weird… no, in my school you don’t need to take a big senior test. You just take the SATs like everyone else. My school recently changed the common core and we don’t have to retake everything. Are other students in the same situation as you? I think you should talk to them and then talk to your counselors. If most of the stuff is going to be the same, then you would probably be better off studying the new stuff and then testing out, so you can have room for other classes. I don’t think schools joke to their students… it is possible to make a mistake though.

I don’t see why I would have to do that. I basically mastered Algebra and Geometry. I think that I’ll test out of it.

I’m sorry, what your school is doing is perhaps the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard of.

Yeah. My school district has the most stupid people ever! My school average is a D! It’s not really competitive, but they offer SOOOO many AP classes.

MY average isn’t a D, but the average of the school is a D.

Honestly I am sorry for the kids that have to do this, I completed all my math (alg 1 + 2, geo) in school and pre-calc online and am currently in AP Calc BC so common core regulations for me.

However, I see my friends all struggling with Alg 2 because A. all the teachers suck using SPRINGBOARD (the worst thing every made for learning math) and B. there is too much added for everyone

Before Alg 2 was an enjoyable experience, now there is more information on functions, stats, trig, they are basically throwing random crap into the class for no reason other than to make our standards higher.

Hope you get out of this alive, common core has some goods (standardized across nation) but its mostly all bad.

I feel like someone should insert some kind of joke here about the school average being a D ;)

You dirty. :P

I believe you live near me, so this is very scary news. Apparently now there’s a Common Core Math 4??? And I might have to take it instead of Pre-calc? I was among the first to take Math 1, 2 and (right now) 3 so thankfully I won’t have to repeat anything if my school implements the delirium yours is. That’s ridiculous.
