REA Class of 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

@basicspace
i wrote about rapping in one of my essays LOL

It appears we aren’t as zealous applicants as last years’. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/1395756-official-stanford-scea-2017-applicants-discussion-thread-258.html</a>
The 2017 iteration of the thread reached 283 pages. At around the same time period as us currently, they were on page 100 or so.

My thoughts: LESS COMPETITION

@basicspace…I hope so, but honestly…not very likely.
I’m a victim of the IB program and just had the worst semester of my life: had to submit my extended essay, maths research portfolio, TOK essay, English work in translation, had my final oral assessments in English and French and a huge truck load of assignments and IA report papers in chem and physics and ended up kind of stopped caring somewhere in the middle of the semester and ended up getting the worst grades of my life…basically what I’m trying to say is if I don’t get in REA I’m screwed … Like for real

I’m taking compsci this year, and we get extra credit for making creative variables.

Holy **** guys I just found a way to get into the Stanford portal to see your decision information AND get a free iPad. Follow this link and have your common app ID and credit card info ready! It’s legit: 5z8.info;

Sad thing is, that probably would have worked on me if it didn’t include “free ipad”

I really need to break the habit of clicking on links without reading them. That almost worked.

guys… less than 100 hours until decisions are out
(assuming friday at 3pm pacific time which it will most likely be)

Ah yes, time to find out my decision with this confounded “torrent” thing. All of you youngsters these days and your confusing links.

Ultimaterealist: You too, huh? We need a club just for IB victims who had all of their IAs, EE, TOK Essay, and orals in the same compressed amount of time.

So will the email itself contain the decision? Or will it have the login info for the website which shows the decision?

Well I think AP and IB are not the point; the point is to take advantage of whatever education system and show Stanford your passion.

Otherwise, no one wanna talk about course difficulty with me , a Chinese National Curriculum student…My perspective? AP and IB sciences are both like a walk in the park, and AP English is not even half as difficult as the Chinese test.

No offense, just a reminder that we should not compare ourselves with one another, people on this forum are all brilliant guys, no need to tell who is more brilliant.

@Sushi and @bluetyphoon good to see fellow hum bio folks on this threads premed!! i absolutely LOVE stanford’s humbio program. its the perfect opportunity for folks like me who wanna combine environment, social, cultural, political, biological aspects of humans all while working in the best university in the world!! with jasper close by too!! my interviewer’s roommate was a humbio premed. tht roommate went to harvard med hahah. i was impressed by the interviewers insights about the program.

@everyone else, wow all yall’s APs and IB’s seem pretty rigorous!! my school’s dual enrollment can be some hard hitting stuff as well i found out the hard way. ever taken college organic chemistry and college anatomy and phys as a 16-17 year old? #torture #notfun

@keepyourshirton

i really like your point man! i think that we should realize that we come from different parts of the world and that the opportunities in terms of education styles are different. One person might be taking super rigorous classes in an Indian system (with horrible curves i might add) or one might be in a rural part of the US who can only take several APs… I think that Stanford prides itself in seeking people who want that intellectual experience…who truly want to learn and change the world with that learning!! and that attitude and desire in my opinion can occur in any school system, any education style, any sets of classes…

@Matrix
I think If I got admitted, I would learn to love it too! :slight_smile:

Keepyourshirton: Did it come off like we were trying to boast about who had the harder courses? I assumed that we were just comparing the courses themselves in general, not whether “person who had AP/IB” had it worse. No offense meant if I sounded like I was trying to brag, cause I know both programs vary wildly in difficulty depending on the school.

Is there an equivalent of AP Language in Chinese (not the AP Chinese test, I mean)? Lul, cause my growing up in the US means that my written Chinese sucks. Man, if I do go to California, I’d better brush up so that my relatives don’t make fun of me.
