REA Class of 2018 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I can imagine each of us being a tribute in the Hunger Games. Out of all the tributes, only a few will win. :P

I’ll probably end up like Beetee and nearly electrocute myself as a result of trying something totally bizarre. Except instead of a makeshift lightning rod it was crazy essays, and instead of death I face a far worse punishment… rejection.

Spoiler alert, btw ;)

hahaha @sushicat interesting analogy. If we are truly the hunger games, lets make ALLIANCES!!! :wink: HAHAHAH jk jk
this is like hunger games where if you are one of remaining several, you get in, the rest get bumped down to consolation tournament lolol

the odds are never in our favour

guys, u wanna predict Early Action # of applicants and # of acceptance letters and # of deferral letters? i know we all don’t wanna visit the evil depths of super low acceptance rates but i cant get stanford out of my mind and am searching the internet like every day to see if stnaford released numbers for our class. we should do like a contest or something of whoever gets the closest or something. just something to pass the time when everyone is free

6500 applicant, 750 accepted, 1000 deferred are my guesses

I agree with the acceptance and application numbers, but the deferred number will likely be more towards 500.

I would say because Stanford stated its attitude towards deferral ( Stanford makes decision whenever possible), the actual number of deferral is going to be like 5%-10%,and less than the accepted. Due to REA pool strength it’s fair we double the possibility if acceptance and thus we have 12%-14%, so yeah, around 7000, 940-980 acceptance, 350-700 deferral.

Just a guess.

@matrixsurgeon @ecyoung

YES! His new album was absolutely killer! I want to finish reading the screenplay but it’s really long and I haven’t had the time, but if it ties the album together and explains the whole clout of mystery he’s been hiding in these past few months it’ll be more than worth it.

I say 6436 applicants, 765 acceptances, 549 Deferred. Total of a 20.25 CONSIDERATION rate (accepted+deferred). 11.9% acceptance rate (im guessing stanford doesn’t wanna pass 12 percent) and a deferral rate of around 8.25% which is constant in years past…

@matrix

Doesn’t look like a guess… where’d you get that?

Last year’s accepted number was 725, and it should be a bit higher this year with the increase of applicants.

I’m quite glad that Stanford doesn’t have a high deferred rate like some other schools. I just want to know my acceptance or rejection, no in-between.

Stanny doesn’t like loose ends LOL

You do realize that Stanford aims at a certain number of admitted students not at a certain acceptance rate. So even if the number of applicants increases greatly the number of admitted students will not increase very much, since yield will likely be similar and they only have space for so many people. I think number of deferrals might go up but the number of accepted students should be very much in line with years past.

So we have estimates for EA acceptance statistics. What about for this thread? Last year, 25-30 people got in, which is really intense (yes I was looking through the thread nolifelolol). I count 42 signers on the last page, so I’d say 10 or so will get in.

EDIT: Yeah 42 gg counting skills

@keepyourshirton

haha nah its a guess… I was doing calc/physics finals studying and I felt like doing some math techniques to figure out a educated guess… i looked at numbers from last 5 years… haha i know im wierd lololol

@Aigese I agree with that but to be honest, at this point I would not mind being deferred…Sure I would be mad that I didn’t make the cut, but I would still be happy as hell that Im getting another chance considering my stats/position…

@Sophus I agree with yall fully… but it has seemed that stanford has kept with 20-22% consideration rate over last several years and considering the fact that stanford will never go above 775 acceptances for REA, i think 750-760 would be reasonable as last year’s decrease in number of acceptances from the year before was unexpected/uncalled for…

@basicspace good idea!
I think there is like 41-42 people in our thread that are applying to stanford rea (unless i counted wrong) and I say that 9-12 will get in…

So we find out on Friday? Goodness gracious I’m scared.

Does anyone have any news on when the decisions will come out or at least when they will announce the actual date?
