About 2 weeks ago (along with Harvard RD)

Hello all. The time is near…So any guesses as to how many applicants are in the class of 2018 REA pool? Wasn’t it around 6,000 last year?

I also have a question regarding the supplement essays. How imperative is it for the topics of said essays to tie into your major of interest? I am planning on studying either chemical engineering or economics and then going to business school after graduating. However, my essays deal heavily with ideas of language, philosophy and humanities. Do you think this will raise a red flag to the admissions board?

I think it should be fine because they know we have a wide variety of interests. Good luck to everyone! November 1st is almost here.

Can anyone help me out here; I’m trying to decide if I should use an essay for the “what matters” that highlights my amiability or if I should use one that highlights my curiosity. Which do you think I should use?

Hey guys, I just took the SAT yesterday (November 2nd). I know that Stanford has a “send all test scores” policy for SAT and ACT, so does this only apply for tests taken before the application date is due? I’m applying for the early action deadline, which is tomorrow.

So my question is, am I obligated to send in my SAT score as soon as I find out the result, even though by that time, I will have already submitted my application?

P.S. I only took the SAT to qualify for National Merit Finalist status, so I didn’t prepare as rigorously as I could have; as a result, I don’t want to have to be compelled to send in a lower than desired score to Stanford, which may hinder the (already low) chance of getting in.

@Etshine:
Curiosity would definitely work better for the Intellectual Vitality one. I’d say write “what matters” on your amiability.

AHHH procrastination procrastination! I have to do all the short supplement questions still and then enter it all into the common app sight and AHHHH!

I’m almost never a procrastinator. Why do I choose to start now!?

Goodness good luck with all of that! I’m so bad with revising essays, so the supplements took me like 2 months to do until I finally got them where I liked them, Id probably die of a panic attack if I had to do them all in a night, lol

I submitted my app about four hours ago, and although the common app site has check marks by Stanford, it says “Submitted - November 5, 2013.” I assume this is just a glitch but I’m a tad concerned…

After I submitted, I found a typo on my short answer…sigh hating myself.

Classic a → an mistake.

RedSn0w, same thing just happened to me.

At least its just a typo. One of my recommenders mistakenly included false information about my ECs and now my app’s inconsistent. Admission officers are experienced in finding application holes, and this one’s almost gaping. :(

"Please check the My Colleges tab to see the adjusted date and time your application was submitted. First, click on the name of the school, then click on “Preview and Submission - Common App”. This date and timestamp are displayed according to Eastern Time (ET).

“On the Dashboard, the date you see may be slightly different; this is because the date that you see is displayed based on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which is 5 hours ahead of ET.”

Depending on what time you submitted it in what time zone, it could have been November 5th. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you’re supposed to submit the application in your time zone at 11:59 p.m. so I think you’ll be fine …

Thanks nightmelody, look’s like everything is okay then. See you all in about 6 weeks.

WOOT!! Got it in with no problems (all green check marks and the time said it was November 4th!)
Did anyone else have major issues with formatting the essays though? I kept getting all these wierd spaces and stuff when I copy and pasted it into the common app, and also the word count was off (varied but it always had 5-15 words less in the “word count” part than the actual word count) I read through it all and no words were missing but the lower word count still worried me…

It shouldn’t be a problem if Commonapp says I’ve submitted it on the 5th, right? (Because Commonapp’s times are shown according to EST/UTC, and when converted to PST it’s still before the deadline)

Should be A-okay! RELAX GUYS! WE’RE DONE!

Wait…@ aviraldg mine says that too now!? D: oh noooo

I submitted my app exactly 15 minutes before 11:59 p.m. PST…

Prize for procrastination?
