I'm ready to apply to UF- however, I have a small problem. I would like to include on my application that I am a National Merit Semifinalist, but I won't receive the official letter until mid-September.

Will NMF make a significant difference in scholarship opportunities at UF? Should I wait to apply until I have received official acknowledgement of NMF status?

If you mention your PSAT score they can tell what it means without having the official semi-finalist notice. It used to mean until a couple of years ago $5.5k/yr. Now is down to $1k/yr. however it might be your ticket to being accepted.

yea UF likes NMF and IB students .. so if you're in one of those category, you're pretty much are gonna be accepted unless you screw up your senior year or something.

hmm on your resume, if i were you i would put National Merit Semifinalist
and then the next line Nartional Merit Finalist (waiting for confirmation)

If your score is so high that it will definitely be way above the usual cutoff score all you need is to list it. If you are borderline and not sure what the cutoff is going to be then you are not a semifinalist until you get the official notice in September. If all your material is ready, submit your applicaton ASAP and get your place in line for housing, forget NMSF, your PSAT score won't change.

My score is 226, the average for my state hovers around 210. Since I am not confirmed as a Semifinalist yet, I wasn't sure how to denote it on the application. Does the school even receive the PSAT score?

Only you and your high school get the scores. If it is in your transcript then the university will see it (not all school districts include the score in their transcripts). Since the application to UF can be sent already, make sure to include your score someplace. The deadline is Nov 1 but you want to lock in your housing priority number as soon as you can if you wan to live on campus. You can always update your application since decisions are not going to be made until much later (way past the deadline).

My D's putting under awards/recognition section her actual PSAT score w/ "notified of national merit consideration." We know she's not high enough for semi, but she's higher than the 200 cut-off for commended, and we figure they'll know the approx. for our state and deduce that on their own.
