Real World Opportunities and Environment at Smith?

Hi, I’m hoping to major in Music and English (considering minors in either Art History or Philosophy). I was wondering if students ever get real-world professional experience at Smith- it kind of felt as Smith was in its own little bubble when I visited. As a musician, I would like to perform and attend concerts. As a writer, I would have liked to have held internships with organizations and magazines (not just local gazettes, like Hampshire Gazette, etc.). Are there any opportunities in the area at all, specifically as a musician and writer? Or does one really have to go elsewhere, say on a Praxis internship, to really have these kinds of opportunities?

Also, does Northampton ever get boring?

Any thoughts are welcome!

yes, you get many real world opportunities at smith because of all the networking and recruiting and internship opportunities from other smithies.
attending concerts? i get about 2 emails a month from the music department about concerts in town/in northampton
performing? yeah, there are open mic nights downtown
im only a first year so it hasnt gotten boring yet. even if it does, people do weekend trips to boston and stuff.
for music/writing opportunities, again im a freshman, but i suppose so, yes
