Realistic Jumps

Is a jump from 1990 to 2150+ incredibly unlikely? I've seen a few posts in which people have claimed to make such jumps, but really, is it even possible? Can one actually study for the SAT as much as everyone says one can? Am I wasting my time?

You could, you just have to focus very well, take MANY practice tests, memorize a lot of vocab, etc.

I plan to go from 2040 to 2150 in October :D

Not that impossible. I started out 1990 the first time I took a practice test and got a 2170 on my PSAT (even with a massive amount of skrewups)

aiming for higher on the SAT tomorrow! If you study, and keep on doing them, analyze the ones you got wrong AND the ones you got right but guessed on, you'll improve so much.

Good luck!

it really depends on the person and how much effort you put into it. If you put enough effort, then anything is capable. I jumped up 300 points from my PSAT to my actual SAT. If you want to know more about it, email me @ pmanliu@gmail.com

No, I don't think it's unlikely. On my PSAT from freshman to sophomore year I went from 205 to 230 (and then to 240 this year!)... on the real thing in January I got a 2250. I've heard the lower your scores are to begin with, the higher the jump (given the proper potential which I'm sure you have!)

i went from a 1070 or 1600 (psat) to a 1270 or 1850 (1st sat). im aiming for a 1330 or a 2000. ive already made a 250 point jump but i dont know how realistic a 400 point jump is

You can probably hit 2100, if the first time you took it was a fluke. Mine was, so I jumped a lot, but if you tried really hard to attain 1990, then a 2150 might be a really high jump for you.

I think it depends on what section you have the most room to improve in. If it is math/writing, it is easily possible, but it may be harder in CR.

it's likely if you try.

One of my friend went from 1800ish to 2200's within a year. He was completely unprepared first, and he constantly had spent 2hours or more a day.

I myself experienced +220 increased

diminishing returns... i've seen loads of friends make the jump from 1700 to almost, almost 2100 but then put very little effort.. just learning the strategy and mechanism behind the test.

to make the jump from 2100 to 2200 or 2300, study study study practice practice practice by the bucketload seems to be required

When I first gave my SAT I was completely unprepared though I did well since I am an international student my CR is weak so I am working on that and I will give exam in Jan 2008 by the way I already got admitted and now I am transferring...My aim is to go from 1500 to 2200+ I took one practice exam yesterday and I jumped almost from my past 1400-1500 to 2000 I think it may be that now I am experianced with English after coming to the USA...but I think with hard and smart work it is possible...work on tactics...plan a strategy....and It will make wonders...

ok so what would be a math score if you got 2 MC wrong left one blank and got a grid-in wrong?

sorry wrong thread don't mind that^^^

Well i hope it's possible, i dont want to waste all my time over the summer for nothing. I got 1840 my first time, and plan to get over 2100 my second. I didnt really study for my first one either

i got a 180 on my psat first time. a little more focus got me a 212... and good enough for natl merit in my state haha

very possible. you can study both math and writing to near-perfects. CR, however, is a little bit different-- but start learning words and reading before the next test.

I went from 1860 to 2200+ :D
