heyy CONGRATS IMMIKE1234! that is awesome. I see that this is form pretty old, but I just opened the denial letter from pitt and I’m pretty shocked now too not even a space on the wait list or anything…
I applied on January 9th, late I know. So I thought that was the reason why I was deferred. But I wrote one of the optional essays, sent mid year grades (straight A’s) sent my transcript from the fall semester (I’m dually enrolled at a community college) and I got a 3.5 there. I also sent a recommendation letter from one of my college professors, who is the leader of his department and wrote a pretty nice letter.
My sat’s are, reading: 570, math: 620, writing: 620. I thought those scores were decent for pitt but I guess my GPA brought me down. 3.5 UW, 3.9W. What do you guys think? Is it worth contacting them? I’m still waiting to hear from 6 other schools (including my top 2), so I’m not sure what the likeliness of going to pitt is, but still… what do you think?

So a little update on my situation. I ended up calling the Pitt admissions office, and asked why I was flat out rejected, they said that engineering was very competitive, etc. I ended up being re-evaluated for Arts and Sciences, and got accepted today!

congrats iphonehacker!

That’s awesome congrats. If you still want to go into engineering just take the prereq’s (calc physics chem…) and you will be in the EXACT classes of the engineering kids just not labeled as a “swanson” student. Then you apply to transfer in for your sophmore year. Thats what I might do (if i go here).
