Any other intl students struggling with the wire transfer instructions?

My bank's forms ask for information quite different form what Oberlin specifies.

I have been to 4 different local banks today to find an employee who can clarify the situation, but none of them had a clue about sending to one bank, for credit to this, and for further credit to another specified address. Somehow the wire transfer form here in Thailand is just not designed to fill in that information.

None of the bank employees had a clue about how to include all this information into their wire transfer form. One also told me that the bank swift code specified by Oberlin does not match the bank name!

This is getting frustrating, and I really want to send in my deposit already, I am so anxious!

Is wire transfer the only way to do it?

I assume you do not have a U.S. check or a U.S. Dollar money order…but there’s no credit card option?

And does your reply have to be sent by mail, or can they take a .pdf or is there an electronic submission?

This could cut off lots of decision time for international students if their card has to be received by May 1, The U.S. inbound mail is very slow lately. Some items take as much as two weeks.

I was not told there was credit card payment option -that’d be so easy! I’ll phone admissions today and find out :P

My admissions man said I can fill in and scan the reply card Of course colleges will realize the the horridly slow international mail system - mine takes about 3 weeks xD

It’s true that, due to complicated reasons that I don’t fully understand, we are unable to accept credit card payments for enrollment deposits. But, Drelnis, if you’re having problems getting your deposit sent from Thailand, you should contact Joel Presti and he should be able to help you out.

Thanks Ms. Houston! I’ve already e-mailed Joel Presti about this on Monday Waiting for his reply! :D

Whee I just got an e-mail from Mr. Presti, he told me credit card payment is available, what a delight Waiting for instructions on that though… because the credit card payment page says “Payment on the Web can only be used to pay for term bill charges”, and I’ll need to fill in my social security number, which I of course have none The payment page is also listed clearly as Term Bill Payment, I’m wondering whether they’re giving an exception to international students’ deposits? :P

Besides Ms. Houston just said a few minutes ago that credit card payment is not available… I have absolutely no idea what is going on xD

I’m not sure I’d want to run the term bill on a credit card. Then again, that might rack up enough frequent flyer miles to pay for the trip to Ohio.

Dyer Maker, this is just the $300 deposit However it is listed under Term Bill Payment, and I can’t submit it without filling in a social security number. Waiting for an e-mail from Mr. Presti right now :)

Understood. I’m just saying that while the rule says “Payment on the Web can only be used to pay for term bill charges” I would think it would be just the opposite…well, depending on what they mean by “term bill charges.” If it means the tuition, room and board for the term, that would be a lot to load onto a credit card and might max out many people. Plus, if the credit card charges a merchant fee, it could cost Oberlin lots of money. If, however, term bill charges are various and sundry expenses like fees and books and instrument rentals and the like, then the deposit sounds like it fits that description.

Good luck with getting all that lined up. I guess this explains why they waive the application fee for international students.

Totally, the wait is anxious And thanks for the good luck! :)

Sent it in already through credit card, online. It was so easy! Thanks to admissions for walking me through the process :)
