Hey guys,
I'm desperate.. i've been running around for 3 days now checking up banks and post offices.. but i can't find that "International Postal Money Order" thing..
apps say that they accept only checks from u.s. banks or money orders.. except of dartmouth i haven't seen any u or college offering online payment of the application fee (VISA)
To those intls. who applied already: Where did you get those money orders from??!?!
i'd appreciate any comments or suggestions..

i applied for fee waivers.. so i only had to pay for three colleges (NYU, american university of paris and bard college). american U and bard can be paid online - through credit card. NYU, on the other hand, requires money order/check drawn from a US bank - so what I did was i asked my aunt who lives in the US to pay the fee for me by mailing the check directly to NYU.

r u shure that the checks have to be only from us banks? i'm sending my app next week with ckecks from a bank in my country and i don't know if that's going to be a problem...

i emailed NYU and asked them if i could send the money order separately. they replied and told me that it would be best if i could send everything together; however, if i will be mailing the check separately, i should write an identifying factor like my birthdate on the check so they can match it with my application. what i did was i included a note in my application stating that the application fee (in check) will be sent separately.

danna_:

i think the checks really do have to come from a US or US affiliate bank..

Hey, what if I send a Bank Draft thats drawn on an American Bank (like CitiBank) - that should be OK, right? Does any1 know what details I'd need to include on the cheque, or do I just address it in payment of "Yale University" for example.....Cheers!

Try to find an American citizen or someone with a US bank account to help you out. We do this all the time for people here in your situation. American Express banks are a good option as well, I would guess, also "Western Union".

mercurysquad, what exactly is a "dollar draft" ? i can't find a tanslation anywhere.. is it a kind of check or something? here in germany the bank-guys are kinda dumb.. they haven't even heard of "money orders".. so i need something that they can understand..

tell them you need a "draft" - ask your parents what that is in german. then tell them, you want a draft that is in US DOLLARS, not euros (or whatever you use there).... tell them you have to transfer money to a college in the USA... hope that helps... I'm indian btw, i dont know german :)

stauch, you can use a 'brank draft'. I'm sure every bank offers that service. It's the most common. But maybe you will have to show some evidence that you are applying to this or that college. So take a brochure/viewbook or the confirmation page (if you apply online) to the bank. And that's all. Good luck.

Why don't you email the admissions/finaid office of the university to find out? the financial jargons might differ from country to country; you can ask the bank people in Germany for checks payable in US.

hey shubham, why do you ask about fee waivers here? you can check the information in the topic SAT I: Crash of my life by stardragon, page 3 or 4.
