I am a freshman (technically) student at a top ten university and I do not like it at all. It is very competitive and there is not much community or college feeling. I’d love to attend a school with more community and a traditional college atmosphere, as well as one where the students/academics are more relaxed. I would also like a school that helps students grow as people, cares about students with mental health issues (I have anxiety and depression), and is very accepting. The problem is that I did not get a good GPA (2.85) my first semester and I’m not really sure where I could transfer to with these grades. I’d want to go to a school that is still generally highly-ranked and that has good academics. I had a 4.1 unweighted GPA in high school and a 32 ACT (33 superscored). I would be transferring for Fall 2017, but I have very little idea of places that would fit my needs/wants. i’m lost in my search and I need some direction.
If you can afford it, you should try to do better at your current school and then do your applications next fall. That way, you have time to improve your GPA. Alternatively, you could go to community college for a couple semesters and get your grades up before applying to transfer.
