Received a letter regarding Regent's Scholarship.

do they give regents to OOS?

^^ yes, they do, but it's very difficult to get for OOSers (hell, it's difficult for everyone).

so if you havent gotten a letter yet, you pretty much arent getting one, right?

You might wait a few more days. They did say they send them out the first week of February. They may have just sent many of them earlier.

Hmm, will applying for the Regents Scholarship for UCLA hurt my chances of getting into the other UCs?

considering that the deadline for the scholarship and its rec letters is the 13th, I would guess that all the letters have been sent a while ago.

And does anybody know if transfers students receive the letter at the same time as freshman applicants or at a later time?

is the regents letter the one that asks for 2 recommendations?

I think the alumni scholarship also asks for two recommendations.

I thought they only required one recommendation, just two copies of it.
Btw, epicyclical: is that a reference to Cassandra Clare's DT?

To aninvertedlove, applying to the regents scholarship will absolutely not hurt your chances for the other uc's. We have people who get multiple Regents Scholarships from various UC's.

And good job on getting the invitation!! I really hope to see you guys around for the reception!

And for those with considerable financial aid, I think it's important for you to know that if you do get the scholarship, UCLA will basically cover ALL of your financial need with grants and scholarships and WITHOUT loans or work-study.
For example, a year at UCLA will cost roughly 24K. If your EFC is only 1000, UCLA will give you the remaining 23K! Best deal ever.

so how do they choose the scholarship recipients?
do they look at your entire application (scores and essays), and the regents app essays, and the rec letter?

anyone have any insight into the process?

The Regents process is completely random (imo). 1960 SATs, completely crappy college entrance essays ( I actually said I didn't care whether I got into college or not, honestly) and I still got a regents scholarship. lOL. So don't feel too bad that you don't get a regents scholarship.

Dean: See you at the reception and OSP. This is your friend from Dykstra/ D-boat.

Exactly how likely is a candidate to get the scholarship. I am very happy that I was invited, but I am not assuming that I am guaranteed the scholarship. IF I do get it, though, times will be good.

^^ I'm assuming ~half of the students invited for it are offered it. Maybe less. I'm pretty sure that many of those chosen for Regents' at UCLA also get into other top schools like Stanford and Dartmouth and such, so they often go there. I know only about half of those offered Regents' at Berkeley actually attend (then again, the Regents' program at UCLA is arguably better).
